FRANKFURT — Audi plans to resume engine production at its factory in Hungary on Tuesday to build up supplies for its European car plants.
An Audi spokeswoman said the automaker expects the site in Gyor, one of the world’s largest powertrain factories, will begin operating again after the Easter holiday.
The factory produced 1.97 million engines last year for Audi and other Volkswagen Group brands, according to Audi. These were five gasoline and three diesel variants with power outputs from 86 hp to 639 hp, as well as electric motors.
Audi’s factories in Neckarsulm, Germany, and Brussels, Belgium, are scheduled to resume production on April 20. Neckarsulm produces the A4, A5, A6, A8 sedans. Brussels builds the e-tron Sportback EV.
The automaker’s home plant in Ingolstadt will start on April 27. The Q2, A3, A4 and A5 are made in Ingolstadt.

Audi’s global vehicle deliveries fell 9.2 percent to 240,200 in the first two months, according to the latest figures from the automaker.
Governments around the world are slowly looking to open their economies back up following restrictions on businesses and people’s movement taken to combat the coronavirus. The pandemic prompted Audi to refrain from providing annual financial targets in mid-March.
