Chevrolet Launches Seven-Seat Blazer SUV in China
2020-04-16
SHANGHAI – Chevrolet livestreamed the online launch of its seven-seat Blazer this evening from SAIC-GM’s Shanghai manufacturing facility, where the newest member of the brand’s SUV family in China is produced.
“The Blazer mid-large SUV is taking Chevrolet into one of the market’s fastest-growing segments,” said Scott Lawson, general director of Chevrolet for SAIC-GM. “It will fulfill the diverse needs and personalized preferences of local consumers through its youthful and sporty styling, fashionable interior and advanced technology.”
The Blazer represents the boldest, most progressive expression of Chevrolet design. It comes with GM’s latest Ecotec 2.0T engine, a versatile seating layout, 70 standard intelligent connectivity features and 13 leading safety technologies.
Five variants with a choice of six exterior colors, including one Redline model and two RS models, range in price from RMB 259,900 to RMB 329,900.
Compelling and Stylish Design
The Blazer was inspired by both the Chevrolet FNR-CarryAll concept SUV, which showcased the brand’s new-generation SUV design language, and Chevrolet performance vehicles such as the Camaro and Corvette.
It has a length of 4,999 millimeters, width of 1,953 millimeters and height of 1,736 millimeters. A wide stance, tight proportions and dramatic sculpting define the exterior. The Blazer also adopts contemporary Chevrolet design cues such as a distinct dual-port X-shape grille, dual Y-shape LED taillights and sharp split LED headlights.
Its interior has distinguished “sports car-SUV” styling to inspire driving passion, with a flying-wing dual-cockpit design, a 10-inch “floating” center touchscreen and an 8-inch LCD instrument panel.
A 2,863-millimeter wheelbase supports the Blazer’s functional 2+3+2 seating layout and 37 storage spaces. It is reconfigurable, providing up to 1,970 liters of cargo space when the second- and third-row seats are folded flat. Its over 1-square-meter panoramic dual-pane power sunroof contributes to the feeling of spaciousness.
Efficient Propulsion and Dynamic Driving
The Blazer has GM’s eighth-generation Ecotec 2.0 intelligent variable cylinder turbocharged engine, which meets the China 6 emission standard. It delivers maximum power of 174 kW @ 5,600 rpm and maximum torque of 350 Nm @ 1,500-4,000 rpm. This allows the Blazer to go from 0-100 km/h in nine seconds.
It is also equipped with a new nine-speed Hydra-Matic transmission that contains more than 60 patented technologies. With the start/stop function, the Blazer’s fuel consumption is as low as 7.4 liters/100 kilometers.
The Blazer offers two intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) systems and four driving modes – Normal, AWD, Off-road and Sporty – complemented by segment-leading 21-inch Michelin LATITUDE SPORT 3 high-performance tires. The AWD systems can be switched between front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive within 0.12 second to handle different road conditions.
The top Blazer RS variant adopts an advanced twin-clutch AWD system that independently controls torque through both rear axle clutches, enabling continuous distribution of torque between the left and right rear wheels. The maximum torque output of the rear axle can reach 3,000 Nm, greatly improving the vehicle’s ability to overcome driving challenges.
Advanced Safety and Connectivity
The Blazer comes with 13 advanced safety technologies, including adaptive cruise control (ACC), a 360-degree HD full-mode camera, Automatic Parking Assist (APA) and the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system that includes 22 electronic subsystems such as Curve Brake Control (CBC), Enhanced Hill Start Assist (EHHSA), active Roll Over Protection (ROP), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill Descent Control (HDC).
Chevrolet’s new MyLink+ in-vehicle infotainment system helps take SUV comfort to a new level. It supports OnStar, Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife, and provides over-the-air (OTA) upgrades, Super ID and smart navigation, entertainment, music, news, real-time weather and traffic through in-vehicle apps. In addition, it has 70 standard connectivity features such as air temperature and humidity sensing, ANC active noise reduction technology, keyless entry and one-click start, and an electronic heated rearview mirror.
Customers are entitled to 100G of free OnStar 4G LTE data service every year and SAIC-GM’s quality assurance warranty of eight years or 160,000 kilometers for major components, including the engine and transmission. The warranty remains in effect if the vehicle’s ownership changes, ensuring a high residual value.
Before June 30, Blazer buyers can also receive favorable financing, including a down payment of RMB 120,000 and 24 installments at 0% interest or a down payment as low as RMB 54,000 and up to 60 installments at an ultra-low interest rate.
Chevrolet has been offering innovative SUVs featuring world-leading technology since introducing the Suburban Carryall – the world’s first SUV – in 1935. The Blazer mid-large SUV is joining the Equinox midsize SUV, Tracker small SUV and Trailblazer compact SUV in China. A five-seat Blazer will be introduced in China at a later date.
