- Since SOP in 2015, the ZF Zhangjiagang Braking plant has produced 20 million calipers in 4.5 years
- Products at top quality, with Parts Per Million (PPM) defect rate under 0.35

Zhangjiagang, China. The ZF Zhangjiagang Braking plant in China has recently produced its 20 millionth brake caliper. After starting production of calipers including Electric Park Brake calipers in 2015, it took only 4.5 years to reach this milestone. More than 85% of these calipers have been sold in China, while the rest are exported.
“The production of the 20 millionth caliper in Zhangjiagang Braking plant marks a new milestone for our braking business in China. We have also recently developed a face mask production line in the Zhangjiagang plant, which shows how ZF is supporting the health and safety of our employees and taking social responsibility. Our plants all over China are achieving business breakthroughs, and we have weathered difficult challenges by performing excellent mitigation and prevention measures during the COVID-19 pandemic period. I hold strong confidence in ZF’s further development in China,” said Dr. Holger Klein, member of ZF’s Board of Management responsible for the Asia-Pacific and India region.
The ZF Zhangjiagang Braking plant saw ground-breaking in 2014, and started production of calipers in 2015. It took only 4.5 years to reach the 20 million production milestone, with an impressive parts-per-million defect rate remaining under 0.35. Both indicate a high standard in terms of production efficiency and quality. More than 85% of these calipers have been sold in China, while the rest are exported.
ZF has nearly 100 years of history in the automobile braking industry since it designed the first parking brake for Ford in 1928. The Zhangjiagang Braking plant primarily produces the Electric Park Brake (EPB) which is a breakthrough for caliper products as it combines motor technology to actuate the parking brake with traditional service brake calipers. It opens the possibility for brake-by-wire technology and supports advanced integrated safety functions.
ZF is the pioneer of motor-on-caliper integrated technology having launched the technology in 2002. The EPB offers significant advantages in weight reduction of braking systems including enhanced fuel economy, and is also an outstanding embodiment of intelligent mechanical systems.
