Mazda and Toyota invest 1,300 million in a joint venture to produce 300,000 vehicles in the US

Mazda and Toyota have invested 1,600 million dollars (1,300 million euros at the current exchange rate) in a joint venture with headquarters in Huntsville, in the State of Alabama (United States), through which they will manufacture up to 300,000 vehicles from of 2021.

According to the two companies, in a statement, at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTMUS) plant, as the joint company is called, 150,000 units of the SUVs chaired by Masamichi Kogai and another 150,000 Toyota Corolla units will be assembled.

The president of MTMUS, Masashi Aihara, said the plant, which will employ 4,000 people, will combine the “best technologies” of both Japanese firms, so that their cars will be more than a means of transport for their owners.

For his part, the vice president of the new company, Hironori Kagohashi, stressed that the plant will be the eleventh installation of Toyota on American soil, and that from it will come cars of the “best quality” thanks to the synergy between the two manufacturers.

In collaboration with the State of Alabama and the City of Huntsville, construction work for this new center will begin in 2019.
