After Geely presented its electric car brand Geometry and its first model Geometry A last year, the brand’s second model, the Geometry C, will be launched on the Chinese market in July.
Geometry A was launched in April 2019 and is a sedan. With Geometry C, however, the brand has chosen an almost classic compact car shape. Since the car is set a little higher, Geometry speaks of a crossover although the C is far from being an SUV. With these dimensions, the new electric car will be in direct competition with Nissan’s leaf.
Geometry has also taken a different technical path and will not be building the C on the platform of the A. Instead, the new model is based on a conventionally powered Geely Emgrand GS, which has been extensively adapted to the design of the electric car brand. The model has a wheelbase of 2.7 metres, a total length of 4.43 metres and a width of 1.83 metres. At 1.56 metres, the Geometry C is about a hand’s width flatter than some standard SUV models.
The Geometry C will not be using the 120 kW electric motor from the A: The electric drive comes from Nidec and has an output of 150 kW. Specifically, this is the Ni150Ex, the first model in a planned E-drive series, which will cover a power range from 50 to 200 kW. Two battery variants are offered that should provide a range of 400 and 550 NEDC kilometres respectively. Presumably, these are the same battery packs with 51.9 and 61.9 kWh that are already being used in Geometry A, although this has not been confirmed.
Geely has not revealed prices for the Geometry C. The electric car is supposed to have features like a heat pump, 5G connectivity and an automated parking system.
