Buick Launches All-New Envision S and Envision S Avenir to Strengthen Its SUV Lineup in China

SHANGHAI – Buick today livestreamed the launch of the all-new Envision S and Envision S Avenir, its latest offering in the popular midsize SUV segment, in China.
Built on GM’s latest global SUV platform, the Envision S continues the evolution of Buick’s SUV portfolio, with comprehensive refinement and technology updates that enable it to stand out from the competition. The “S” in its name emphasizes its stylish design, and sporty, smart, safe and satisfying experience that today’s consumers expect.

“It is positioned at the heart of one of the largest market segments in China, offering sculptural styling, effortless power, enhanced connectivity and a package of sophisticated and premium appointments that define all Buick SUVs. The Envision S extends Buick’s product range in midsize SUVs, and is being sold along with the 2020 Envision to match customers’ diverse needs and preferences in China. The Envision models also complement the Enclave, Encore and Encore GX, giving Buick a strengthened portfolio across the SUV segment.
The Envision S is available in three variants with a price between RMB 219,900 and RMB 259,900. For the first time, the Envision nameplate is available with the premium Avenir trim, which represents the highest expression of Buick luxury through a suite of exclusive exterior enhancements and premium appointments. The Envision S Avenir is priced at RMB 279,900.
Expressive and Dynamic Exterior
The Envision S exterior has been fully redesigned, with the adoption of premium proportions, opening the next chapter in Buick’s SUV design evolution. A sporty-looking front and flowing sides with sleek lines give it a dynamic stance that optimizes its aerodynamics.
The expressive front end is highlighted with Buick’s all-new signature grille and has a stronger look than ever before. The V-shaped pattern integrated in the upper grille enriches the visual effect while providing a sense of modern aesthetics. The familiar chrome-plated modern Buick wing spreads out to new daytime running lights, setting the tone for the elevated styling and helping to visually maximize the width of the SUV.
The Envision S also comes standard with full LED headlamps. They enhance driving safety thanks to the exclusive adoption of the adaptive Matrix Pixel lighting system in its segment.
To match younger customers’ more personalized lifestyles, Buick is introducing the exclusive Sport Package for the first time on the Envision S premium variant. It incorporates a black mesh grille and black trim on the window frames, mirrors and roof rack. It also comes with the segment’s only 20-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels.
Stylish and Comfortable Interior
Buick has likewise significantly enhanced the interior of the Envision S. The driver-focused cockpit has been optimized with a new tailored ergonomic design characterized by premium materials and excellent craftsmanship – a hallmark of all Buicks. The clever application of piano paint, soft leather-wrapped surfaces and fine stitching demonstrates the well-executed details and attainable luxury that the brand is known for.
The Envision S has an unmatched 860-millimeter by 1,400-millimeter premium panoramic roof with an ambient light option. To meet the comprehensive needs of SUV users, the model has more than 20 storage spaces, including a segment-leading wide center armrest that can be opened from both sides – a feature usually found in luxury models – and a unique large pass-through storage area under the center armrest.
Maximized Driving Pleasure
The Envision S is powered by GM’s eighth-generation Ecotec 2.0T variable turbocharged engine that generates maximum power of 174 kW and maximum torque of 350 Nm. The engine’s industry-leading Tripower technology heightens performance and efficiency through three distinct operating modes.
Together with GM’s cutting-edge nine-speed Hydra-Matic intelligent transmission with the new Electronic Transmission Range Select (ETRS), the Envision S delivers fuel efficiency of 7.2 liters/100 kilometers together with powerful 0-100 km/h acceleration of 7.5 seconds.
The leading chassis and suspension featured on the Envision S contribute to its improved handling and driving pleasure. The MacPherson front suspension and segment-only five-link independent rear suspension have been optimized to maximize stability. The SUV is also unique in its segment in offering multiple driving modes, including Sport, Snow and Comfort, on the base model.
Technologically Advanced Features
The Envision S is the first model equipped with the new Buick eCloud electrical architecture. It is capable of managing up to 4.5 terabytes per hour of data processing power and supports over-the-air updates of major software-based vehicle control systems to continually ensure the highest level of cybersecurity protection.
The Envision S’s latest eConnect connectivity technology runs on the model’s 10-inch LED touchscreen and 8-inch color instrument cluster. It supports Baidu AI intelligent voice assistance, the SUV’s updated navigation system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife to facilitate massive internet use and optimize the intelligent driving experience. Customers are entitled to 100G of free OnStar 4G data service every year.
Among the other premium comfort features are the standard advanced noise control (ANC) system, Buick’s patented QuietTuning technology, dual-zone independent automatic air-conditioning with a nano-scale anti-PM2.5 filter, the available AQS air quality control system and the Bose Centerpoint® surround-sound stereo system.
The Envision S is also fitted with a wide range of advanced driver assist technologies that emphasize safety. With a single click, the latest version of automatic parking assist (APA) can automatically identify a parking spot and carry out hands-free control for turning, braking and accelerating until the vehicle is securely parked.
An innovative streaming mirror, new head-up display (HUD) and high-resolution 360-degree surround view camera afford the driver a better view of their surroundings in all types of weather and road conditions for enhanced safety.
Envision S Avenir
The Envision S is the fourth Buick nameplate to offer the Avenir sub-brand. The front end stands out with its signature Avenir black ice mesh grille. Other unique luxury characteristics of the Avenir trim include 20-inch wheels with a pearl nickel finish, Avenir badging, an Avenir sill plate and the signature Avenir Mellow color. Exclusive up-level taillamps with clear lenses and super-red LED swipe turn signals provide a distinct look from behind.
Customers have a choice of stylish interior colors. The jetblack color is being offered for the first time alongside the traditional whisper beige to enable users to show their personal identity.
The advanced FlexRide system on the Envision S Avenir optimizes torque distribution to all four wheels for improved ride control and vehicle stability. It is paired with the new-generation Continuous Damping Control (CDC) system that adjusts the ride according to road and driving conditions. The Envision S also features four driving modes – sport, comfort, four-wheel drive and off-road – to meet the preferences of users.
To further simplify the lives of users, the Envision S Avenir is equipped with wireless phone charging and an electric tailgate with a foot movement sensor and Buick logo lighting effect.
