Switch Green: environmental solutions that are economically viable

Hyundai’s participation at GREENTECH FESTIVAL 2020 began on Wednesday September 16th, with Bertrand Piccard’s appearance at Switch Green, an exclusive format where the world’s most inspiring thought leaders presented their solutions for the planet.

As the co-founder and initiator of the Solar Impulse Foundation, Piccard drives innovation by developing economically-viable business solutions that can solve environmental problems. Like Hyundai, many of the organization’s environmentally-friendly business cases are exploring the role hydrogen will play in the energy revolution.

During Switch Green, Piccard outlined his belief that sustainable ecological solutions also provide economic advantages for businesses: “I am convinced that implementing clean and efficient technologies has become the only way to fulfill economic growth.”

Panel discussion: mobility innovation

On Thursday 17 September, Andreas-Christoph Hofmann participated in a panel discussion on the subject of mobility innovation. He presented insights about Hyundai’s zero-emission mobility roadmap and discussed the company’s upcoming IONIQ EV line-up brand.

During this session, Hofmann discussed how Hyundai is investing in fuel cell technology and start-ups to deliver green solutions which extend beyond cars, such as the maritime or logistics sectors, as well as those which have the potential to provide clean energy for households.

Hofmann also introduced Hyundai’s new dedicated EV brand IONIQ. He explained how this will allow the company to implement an entire ecosystem to make eco-mobility as convenient as possible for customers in the future. The brand will play a vital role in accelerating Hyundai’s plan to lead the global EV market. Starting in early 2021, the company will introduce three innovative models, encompassing a CUV, a sedan and an SUV. The 1st launch from the line will be the IONIQ 5 for which the company will soon start a pre-order campaign.

Deep dive discussion: Hyundai’s business case for future mobility and energy solutions

Hyundai also took part in a deep dive discussion on 17 September featuring Mark Freymüller, who presented the company’s Swiss business case for future mobility and energy solutions. Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility is a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and H2Energy. Through this partnership, Hyundai is promoting a green hydrogen ecosystem by putting fuel cell vehicles on the road in the form of its heavy-duty Hyundai H2 XCIENT Fuel Cell electric trucks.

During his appearance at GREENTECH FESTIVAL, Freymüller explained how Hyundai’s commitment to providing eco-friendly commercial vehicles as well as working with its partners for  the development of infrastructure offers proof of the company’s holistic approach to clean mobility. In addition, it demonstrates both the economic and ecologic viability of commercial fuel cell truck mobility, solving the chicken-egg dilemma.
