BERLIN, Mar. 20 (Reuters / EP) –

The prosecutor’s office in Brunswick (Germany) has expanded its investigation into the case of diversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from some Volkswagen vehicles, suspecting that the German brand lied about its true extent and that it had incurred a manipulation of the market.

According to the German magazine ‘WirtschaftsWoche’, the Brunswick authorities registered 13 offices of the headquarters of the Volkswagen group at the beginning of March, a fact that has been confirmed by the corporation itself, confiscating documentation and terabytes of data, in order to “verify the suspicion and identify those responsible. “

The German magazine explains that the authorities would be reviewing the announcement issued by Volkswagen on December 9, 2015 on suspicion that its content was not correct and that it could have incurred a case of market manipulation.

At the time, the German group reported that 800,000 vehicles could have suffered irregularities related to the measurement of CO2 emissions, for a month after reducing that figure to seven models, with a total of nine versions and a production capacity of 36,000 units annual

These seven affected models (nine versions) would all correspond to the Volkswagen brand and Euro 6 engines and were some variants of the Polo, the Scirocco, the Jetta, the Convertible Golf, the Golf, the Passat Alltrack and the Passat Variant. This figure compares with the initially planned 31 models of the companies Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Seat.

Likewise, he assured that the initially estimated negative impact of 2,000 million euros on the company’s accounts in said case had not been confirmed either and stressed that the impact would be less, although it would depend on the results of the adjustment measures.
