SHANGHAI – Cadillac today began exhibiting the all-new 2021 Escalade ESV at the third China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, providing an introduction to its industry-leading technologies that will be rolled out in China.

The fifth generation of Cadillac’s iconic luxury SUV expands on its more than 20 years of segment-defining leadership. It comes with several exclusive, first-to-market technology advances, including a curved Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) screen, the first AKG automotive audio system and Cadillac’s acclaimed Super Cruise driver assistance technology.

“Innovation has been a key factor in Cadillac’s success throughout the brand’s 118-year history, and it continues evolving,” said Felix Weller, Vice President of Cadillac China and General Director of Cadillac at SAIC-GM. “The stunning all-new Escalade ESV is a perfect example. It offers an idea of what Cadillacs will look like on China’s roads in the near future.”

Industry-first curved OLED display technology

The OLED display offers a diagonal display of more than 38 inches, with twice the pixel density of a 4K television and the largest color range of any automotive display in production today. The system includes a 7.2-inch-diagonal touch control panel driver information center to the driver’s left, a 14.2-inch-diagonal cluster display behind the steering wheel and a 16.9-inch-diagonal Infotainment screen to the driver’s right. The paper-thin OLED is curved for optimal visibility.

The display incorporates several other advanced, vision-oriented features. An available all-new augmented reality-enabled navigation system uses live street views with directional overlays and more to enhance driving directions. A new rear-seat entertainment system comes with a pair of 12.6-inch-diagonal independent touch displays. Destination “suggestions” can be “sent” by passengers in back to the driver via the front navigation screen.

Industry-first AKG audio technology

Known worldwide for microphones and headphones used by leading musicians in recording studios and live venues, AKG has brought its audio technology to the automotive industry for the first time with Cadillac. The AKG Studio Reference system has 36 speakers powered by three amplifiers that deliver 28 channels, offering a crisp and immersive listening experience.

The technology enables additional advanced features. Studio 3D Surround delivers recording studio-quality sound, while Conversation Enhancement improves communication between those in front and back by capturing and reproducing their voices. Audio Rendering for navigation has audio prompts that move nearer to the driver as a turn gets closer.

Enhanced Super Cruise

The 2021 Escalade is equipped with Super Cruise, which was recently named the industry’s best driver assistance technology by the Consumer Reports. It enables hands-free driving on nearly 300,000 kilometers of compatible highways in China using LiDAR map data, high-precision GPS, a state-of-the-art driver attention system, and a network of cameras and radar sensors.

The 2021 Escalade’s segment-first Enhanced Super Cruise has several new features, including automated lane change. It allows the driver to direct the system to perform a single lane change using the turn signal to indicate the direction of the desired move.

Isolated precision

The most spacious Escalade ever benefits as well from several new and enhanced chassis technologies for a responsive, precise driving experience.

Cadillac’s signature Magnetic Ride Control, the world’s fastest-reacting suspension technology, “reads” the road and reacts to reduce vertical body motion, body roll and vibrations that can often resonate in a large SUV. It is complemented by the Escalade’s new Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, which delivers automatic load-leveling and ride-height adjustments at all four wheels by up to 51 millimeters to improve aerodynamics, provide additional ground clearance and aid passenger entry and exit.

CIIE runs from November 5-10 at the National Exhibition Center in Shanghai.
