The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) and its members support the European Commission’s initiative to further improve road safety through the revision of the General Safety and Pedestrian Safety regulations.
As this position paper outlines, ACEA members are open to considering a large number of the safety measures under consideration, while expressing concerns on only a few.
To achieve the greatest impact possible, the most-effective safety measures should be selected. That is why ACEA reiterates the need for detailed cost-benefit analyses and proper impact assessments of all measures that are being considered.
Notwithstanding the great potential of these safety measures, an integrated approach is needed as well – examining the benefits that can be achieved by combining new technology with improving road infrastructure and driver behaviour.
