Posted on Mar 30, 2018

Subang Jaya, 30 Mac 2018 – A group of 33 PROTON dealers from Malaysia were recently treated to a visit to the Geely Research Institute (GRI) in Hangzhou Bay, China. The intention of the visit was to take a peek at the future by introducing the dealers to the technological advancements and developments that are ongoing at Geely. It also helped to broaden their perspectives on the capabilities of Geely as it showcased their upcoming future models, which in turn helped boost their confidence in the future of PROTON.

On the day of the visit, Ting Pin, a Geely staff member, was tasked to see to the needs of the delegation from PROTON so it was no surprise to see her already there waiting at the entrance of the GRI on a chilly afternoon. She then proceeded with a walk through of the INTEC exhibition centre.

In brief, Geely INTEC basically represents, the ‘IN’ technologies encompassing INtelligence, INtrend and INtergration and covers 5 components which are; G-Power, G-Safety, G-Blue, G-Netlink and G-Pilot.

G-Power basically covers the development of powertrains and engines. G-Safety is focussed on enhancements of safety on six levels which are; driving safety, driver assistance systems, assistance information and safety warning, active safety systems, collision safety, alarm and accident rescue. G-Blue encompasses light weight car technologies, the reduction of fuel consumption and emissions as well as the development of new energy cars like Electric Vehicles (EV), Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV).

On systems, they have G-Netlink to assist in creating a seamless driving environment with built in information guides as well as designing virtual car keys i.e. keyless cars, which could be activated using smartphones. This technology is already present in the Borui, a sedan built by Geely. Lastly, there is G-Pilot which delves in to the future of autonomous driving. The Borui displayed at the INTEC exhibition area is equipped with autonomous driving technology and through intense development in the next few years, it is expected to achieve a high level of safe autonomous driving after 2020.

Geely also took the PROTON delegation to the Powertrain testing centre, Vehicle Testing Centre and the Pilot Plant. Overall, the visit was a success as dealers were able to witness the extensive technologies being developed at the GRI that would eventually find their way in to future PROTON models.

Ha Yi Wei of Juara Mulia Motor Sdn Bhd was so impressed by the visit she claimed that, “This experience is priceless. The whole building is huge and the area keeps going on and on, and it doesn’t end. What I see here is that Geely is a big company, big in investment on the future, and with them as partner to PROTON, we can be assured of a strong future”.

Nur Shazzani Ahmad Shukri from Pengangkutan Sedar Sdn Bhd was also impressed, that she initially felt a little overwhelmed with the visit. “I am very confident of the future cars coming from PROTON, now that it is in partnership with Geely and after looking at the development in GRI. It shows that Geely has great technology under its belt and its capabilities are very advanced and futuristic. Besides that, they boast a professional team and have the best talents from all over the world working to develop high technology cars of the future”.

“It is wonderful that PROTON has found a partner in Geely. From a business perspective, this is definitely good as the partnership will be able to give us access to a larger group of car manufacturers with world class facilities and technological know-how,” Shazzani added.
