Honda and Vattenfall have begun sales of their first joint smart connected electric vehicle charger in Germany, with the introduction of the Honda Power Charger S+ (4G).
The Honda Power Charger S+ (4G) (‘Power Charger’) offers electric vehicle (‘EV’) owners an advanced AC charging solution at home, with the ability to charge a Honda e to 100% capacity in 7.1 hours* from a 20amp supply, considerably faster than from a standard domestic wall socket.
Orders of Power Charger will be managed and fulfilled by leading European energy supplier Vattenfall. Vattenfall will also oversee the ordering process, home installation and aftersales support to ensure the highest-quality service, nationwide. Customers simply need to visit their local Honda dealer to find out more.
Power Charger is compatible with any EV with a Type Two connection – currently all EVs on the market in Europe – and there is no requirement for customers to change their existing electricity tariff. It has a maximum output of 7.4kW (single- phase power supply), or 22kW (three-phase power supply).
With a simple yet sophisticated design inspired by that of the Honda e, Power Charger has also been designed to create more value for EV owners in the future by enabling intelligent charging services through its connectivity.
Holger Obst, General Manager Automobiles Honda Germany comments: “As the growth in adoption of EVs continues at pace, customers need access to convenient charging where and when they need it. The advanced and intelligent Power Charger offers just that and more – fast, reliable and safe charging at home. We’re delighted to bring to market this smart charger which we can sell in parallel with the new Honda e which features cutting-edge technology and advanced intelligent connectivity. We believe a complete package will create more value in the future and offer customers an enhanced EV experience.”
The introduction of Power Charger to the German market follows the launch of Honda’s first battery electric vehicle, the Honda e, last summer. The Honda e is built on an all-new dedicated EV platform, and was designed and developed specifically for European customers. With its advanced drivetrain, striking simplicity of design, next-generation connectivity package and trademark Honda driveability, the Honda e reimagines the identity of a small Honda for the next era of urban mobility.
The Honda Power Charger S+ (4G) is available now, priced at €1849, excluding installation charge. All chargers offered by Vattenfall in Germany are also eligible for current government funding of €900**.
