Plug-in hybrids and electric cars have increased in popularity in France, rising from 2.5% of all vehicles sold in 2019 to 7.5% today.
Although the ministry recognises that “the transition of the automotive sector will be long,” it appears to be on the right track for the time being as electric bonuses have increased by 125,000 in 2021 so far, compared to the 117,000 granted in 2020 and 50,000 in 2019.
The Commission’s Fit for 55 package aims for new cars to be emission-free in the EU by 2035 and for the bloc to accelerate the production of electric vehicles to meet that target.
