Plug-in hybrid vehicles doubled their deliveries compared to the same month last year and added a 4.7% market share in August
Madrid, September 1, 2021.- The registrations of electrified, hybrid and gas vehicles (cars, quadricycles, commercial and industrial vehicles and buses) increased their sales in August by 38.4% compared to the same month of 2020, until the 20,032 units, of which 19,449 registrations were passenger cars.
In the accumulated of the year, these vehicles increased their deliveries by 92%, to 197,415 units. For the passenger car market, they grew 91.6% in the first eight months, to 188,871 units.
In August, these vehicles already reached a market share of 35%. Specifically, electrified vehicles registered a 7.3% share in the month, while in the accumulated of the year, the registered share was 5.6%. Non-plug-in hybrids are the ones with the highest number of sales with 13,939 units, representing 24.4% of the total market.
José López-Tafall, general director of ANFAC, pointed out that “in an environment of lower deliveries, the sales of alternative vehicles are increasing their weight, registering historical market shares. The conventional hybrid has already established itself as a technology known and accepted by the public, while plug-in hybrids are the ones that grow the most, as a means of entry to electrification ”.
ELECTRIC VEHICLES – Zero Label
Electric vehicle sales rose 9.6% during August compared to the same month in 2020, reaching 1,511 units registered this month. It represents 2.6% of the market share in the eighth month of 2021.
PLUG-IN HYBRID VEHICLES – Zero Label
Sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles in the eighth month of the year reached 2,698 registered units, 102% more than in the same period of 2020. It represented 4.7% of the market share in the month of August.
GAS VEHICLES – ECO Label
Gas vehicles reached a total of 1,884 registered units in August, an increase of 35.3% compared to the same month in 2020. It represents 3.3% of the market share.
HYBRID VEHICLES – ECO Label
Vehicles with non-plug-in hybrid technology reached 13,939 registered units in August, which represents a rise of 34.4% compared to the same month in 2020. It represents 24.3% of the market share.
DIESEL AND GASOLINE – Label C
Total gasoline market registrations (passenger cars, commercial and industrial vehicles, buses and quadricycles) fell 42% while diesel vehicles decreased 44% during the month of August.
