Cadillac to Start LYRIQ Presales in China This Year
Estimated EV range to reach 650 km with a full charge
2021-09-17
SHANGHAI — Cadillac announced that it will start presales of the LYRIQ, its first all-electric SUV, within the year in China.
Test vehicles recently rolled off the production line at SAIC-GM’s Cadillac Plant in Shanghai and are in the local testing phase. The production version of the LYRIQ featuring an estimated EV range of 650 km on a full charge will be launched for delivery in 2022.
“The LYRIQ will set the standard for the future of Cadillac with a stunning, EV based design,” said Chris Biggs, Vice President of Cadillac in China. “It will leverage over a century of innovation to reward customers with a more personal, connected and immersive ownership experience.”
The local version of the LYRIQ is 5,003 mm long, 1,978 mm wide and 1,635 mm high with a wheelbase of 3,094 mm, embedding it in the rank of mid-large SUVs. The production model largely inherits the design elements of the LYRIQ show car unveiled in April at Auto Shanghai 2021.
The LYRIQ offers a strong visual statement that blends sci-fi elements with reality. It looks sporty and elegant at the same time. The assertive, modern character is established through a low, fast roofline and a wide stance that convey confidence. A long hood and rearward-pushing cabin, with the A-pillars appearing pulled back from the front wheels, emphasize agility.
Despite the dramatic presence and slope of the roof, the two-row interior provides generous spaciousness that will please customers and make the LYRIQ stand out in its segment. The interior embodies a pure and minimalist philosophy. Premier technologies and stirring performance capabilities are enabled by the Ultium platform.
The LYRIQ’s 33-inch diagonal advanced LED display, which comes standard across the range, is the absolute focus of attention. The curved screen has backlighting with a large number of zones and offers an ultra-high dynamic contrast of 100,000:1 through precise brightness control for each zone. It can display a billion colors and features 9K resolution – the highest the industry has to offer.
Equally innovative on the LYRIQ is Super Cruise, the industry’s first hands-free driver assistance system for the highway. It enables hands-free driving on nearly 300,000 km of compatible highways in China using LiDAR map data, high-precision GPS, a state-of-the-art driver attention system, and a network of cameras and radar sensors.
The upcoming enhanced Super Cruise system with several new features and improvements will include automated lane change on demand.
With the introduction of the LYRIQ, Cadillac is establishing a direct sales business model in China to interact directly with users and explore a new, more localized approach to help its new American luxury experience evolve in the electrification era. It will embrace transparent retail pricing and a unique EV service system.
In addition, China’s first Cadillac IQ Space opened in Shanghai in early September to introduce the brand’s new energy vehicles (NEVs). Cadillac will accelerate the opening of IQ Spaces in other major Chinese NEV markets to offer consumers a one-stop brand experience, from learning about products to placing an order.
