@FCA: 2023 Tonale Software and Connectivity: Most Technologically Advanced Alfa Romeo Ever Offered

February 8, 2022 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – Alfa Romeo leverages software and connectivity to enhance the driver’s experience, which is and remains the focus. The 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale therefore comes with Uconnect 5, the company’s most advanced in-car technology delivering faster operating speeds, new content and improved customization. Uconnect 5 also offers new convenience and connected services, keeping customers engaged and informed while drivers keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
 
Uconnect 5 allows Tonale owners to create an exclusive home screen with a familiar feel. Customers can personalize the 10.25-inch Uconnect home screen with frequently used features for quick and easy access via one-touch operation, much like a smartphone. Or if the vehicle is equipped with the new plug-in-hybrid system, customers can monitor efficiency through a unique Hybrid Pages app in the center screen with one touch. With a simple horizontal scroll, the screens for Alfa D.N.A., radio, media, phone, navigation, HVAC, connected services and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) can be personally arranged. Redundant hard controls are also available for select operations.
 
The new infotainment system also features several fully customizable interfaces storing up to five different user profiles, featuring preferences for music and vehicle operation. The system also connects comfort systems to a driver’s profile, such as temperature, seating position and mirror placement. Switching between user profiles can be handled by a single touch.
 
In the driver’s cluster, featuring the historical telescopic design, a fully digital 12.3-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) screen accesses all the car’s data and settings for a variety of customer-focused menus (ADAS, maps and performance). The cluster can also be reconfigured, using three layouts: Evolved, Relax and Heritage, the latter inspired by the brand’s iconic models. For plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) owners, Hybrid Pages and an efficiency coach help get the most from the PHEV technology.
 
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto make it easy to stay connected to the vehicle and wireless charging further simplifies the experience.
 
Uconnect 5 features a dual phone application that makes connecting and sharing easy. Uconnect can manage input from both devices with the ability to name one a priority over the other for various functions, including navigation, music selection and text messages.
 
New Over-the-Air Capabilities with Alfa Connect
Servicing and updating your Alfa Romeo has never been easier. The new Telematics Box Module (TBM) preps for growth and assists in quickly moving large amounts of data, engineered for the fastest speeds available. The trusted and secure ecosystem provides an optimal environment for continuous improvement through a built-in cellular network.
 
Alexa
Uconnect 5 brings Amazon Alexa directly into the Alfa Romeo Tonale, giving occupants the freedom to interact with Alexa from home to car and car to home. Using natural speak, occupants can ask Alexa to play music, podcasts and audiobooks; add items to their to-do list and check real-time information. Alexa’s responses use the vehicle’s audio system, allowing all passengers to interact.
 
Voice Recognition
Uconnect 5 features an advanced voice recognition engine with natural voice capability. Statements that would normally be understood in human-to-human conversation can be used to communicate with the navigation system, such as, “find an available coffee shop near me.”
 
Alfa Connect Mobile App
With the available mobile app, owners can check charge levels on their PHEV, start the engine, lock or unlock doors and receive notifications. Inside the vehicle, SOS Call provides external assistance at the touch of a button. The automatic feature calls for outside assistance if the vehicle senses a crash has taken place. With Assist Call, owners can contact the Uconnect customer care team for help with their vehicle or instructions on using a Uconnect system. Stolen Vehicle Assistance helps police track a vehicle’s location and Family Drive Alerts delivers notifications to concerned parents when boundary, curfew or speed limits are exceeded. Owners can also receive a notification when someone else drives the vehicle while in Valet Alert mode.
 
NFT technology
In a world exclusive, Tonale debuts non-fungible token (NFT) technology, a true innovation in the automotive sector. Alfa Romeo is the first automaker to link a car with an NFT digital certificate. The technology is based on the blockchain concept, a confidential and non-modifiable record of the life of an individual vehicle. This distinctive off-board feature supports the innovative nature of Alfa Romeo. With the customer’s consent, the NFT will record vehicle data, generating a certificate that can be used as a guarantee that the car has been properly maintained, with a positive impact on its residual value. In the pre-owned car market, NFT certification represents an additional source of credibility for owners or dealers to count on and buyers will be reassured in their choice.
 
Alfa Connect Services
The Alfa Romeo Tonale is equipped with Alfa Connect Services, offering advanced on-board connectivity and a range of services for safety and comfort. My Navigation consists of apps to remotely search for destinations and Points of Interest (POI), as well as real-time alerts on traffic, weather and speed cameras.  My Remote includes various services such as remote control of the car’s functions (opening/closing doors or flashing the lights) via smartphone or a smartwatch; vehicle location; control of certain parameters (speed and distance from home) and notifications if those setting are exceeded. The My Wi-Fi service provides the option to share the internet connection between multiple devices on board, maximum of eight. Using Alfa Connect Services, drivers can also access My Assistant. In the event of a collision or emergency, the occupant can contact the call center for help via the Assist button on the ceiling light, or by tapping the command on the radio display or in the mobile app on their smartphone. In an accident, the vehicle senses the impact and the call is made automatically, or if the vehicle breaks down, the driver can call for roadside assistance, with the vehicle providing coordinates. The pack also includes a reporting service to send information to Alfa Romeo on the vehicle’s health via monthly email. With My Car, you can keep the car’s condition and parameters under control. Also included in the pack is the Send & Go function whereby customers can send a destination directly from their smartphone or the web portal to the navigation system; My Theft Assistance, which alerts the owner if theft is attempted; and My Fleet Manager, designed for fleet management.
