After several sightings of Tesla Model Ys on car transporters on the highway, it looks like we may now have confirmation of their arrival in showrooms. This photo below of a suspicious looking black shape in the workshop area of the Valley Tesla showroom this morning (Friday) was taken by Majella Waterworth. Is it a Model Y? She had the cheek to ask if she could back Tess in and swap the covers over. “If you’re quick!” was the response.

Australian reservation holders have been waiting not so patiently for the arrival of the Model Y for a couple of years. It is now here. Will this be like the Model 3 — when we queued for one and a half hours just to sit in a left-hand-drive model for 90 seconds? No, it is the real deal, with demonstrators today and deliveries soon to follow.

Majella watched as the sales staff and management huddled tightly in conversation. Try as she might, she couldn’t get any information from them. “I can’t say” was the answer to her questions. In an hour and 20 minutes all would be revealed. At 11 am the cover was lifted and a red Model Y peaked out. The Australian order page is now open with delivery from August to November 2022! The Australian FB model Y page is alive with reports of orders being placed and lots of cheers. Sadly for Majella, I have told her she has to wait for another 2 years.
As my readers know, we drive a Model 3 SR+ in Tesla red. The equivalent in a model Y currently costs $75,000. Not bad, considering that we paid $72,000 for Tess three years ago. Deposit is only $350.

Photos are emerging of the local showroom full of eager customers. No test drives yet, display only. But people are already talking about cancelling their Model 3 orders and upgrading to a Model Y.
Breaking news: the Tesla.com site says that the Model Y will now be available November 2022 to February 2023. Looks like the 3rd quarter deliveries have sold out already. Yeeha!!
