Yahoo Finance’s Pras Subramanian discusses the limited color options car buyers are facing, particularly for certain Teslas.

– Black or white is what it comes down to. Although– Brian and I were saying this. Hasn’t it always been the base color? Like, blue is premium. Silver costs a little more, right?
PRAS SUBRAMANIAN: Yeah, black and white is sort of, like, the main colors that automakers use for most of their cars. I’m black and white right now myself.
– I mean, you do always wear only black.
PRAS SUBRAMANIAN: I know. I know. Monochromatic, I know. I kind of like that look. But exactly. So automakers having to cut down choice, options as, you know, part shortages, paint shortages, shutdowns in factories limiting choice here.
We’re following also Tesla down in Giga, Berlin. They actually had to only– they’re only making white or black model-wise because of paint shop issues, issues with production. They’re going to have to shut down the factory for a little bit to retool things and eventually get back to the point where they can actually build more of these cars. You know, apparently, in Germany, if you want to get a car that’s blue, red, or even silver, you got to order it from Giga, Shanghai, and then wait for that to get here. And that’s going to take at least six months.
– Quickly, I mean, black and white are some of the worst colors, I feel like, for a car. It’s hard to keep clean.
– True. But if you had a choice, black or white? Well, Black.
PRAS SUBRAMANIAN: I would go black. I mean–
– Why not? How about how about the panda paint job?
PRAS SUBRAMANIAN: That’s pretty cool.
– White and black, or ice cream paint job.
PRAS SUBRAMANIAN: Yeah, a little white with some black accents. I like that.
