ACI: Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Italian Mint celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Monza racetrack

Sticchi Damiani (ACI): “We are proud to see the 100th anniversary of Monza celebrated with a coin from the numismatic collection. Thanks to the Ministry of Finance, Poligrafico and Mint of the State for paying homage to our circuit and to the history of Italian Motorsport ”.

The Numismatic Collection is enriched with a new coin: the 5 euro silver, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Monza National Circuit.

With this issue, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Italian Mint celebrate the second oldest circuit in the world: the only one of the two in which Formula 1 races are still held. Known throughout the world as “The Temple of Speed”, the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza is the fastest track and one of the most spectacular of the entire circus. “It is a source of pride to see the 100th anniversary of the Monza racetrack celebrated with a coin from the numismatic collection – said Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of ACI. I thank the Ministry of Finance, the Poligrafico and the State Mint for paying homage to our circuit and, in fact, to the history of Italian Motorsport ”.

The coin is? made by the engraver artist Antonio Vecchio, in the Fior di Conio version and has a circulation of 8,000 pieces.

On the obverse, a work by the English designer Michael Turner, which reproduces a phase of the race of the 2nd Italian Grand Prix held on 10 September 1922 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. In the foreground, the cars of Pietro Bordino, winner of the race on a Fiat 804, and Pierre de Vizcaya, third at the finish line on a Bugatti T29, appear on the straight. On the right, you can see the stands for the public, while, on the left, the exit of the “Curva Sud” and the third car, that of Guido Meregalli, a Diatto type 20S. In the round, the inscription “ITALIAN REPUBLIC”.

On the reverse, in the center, the official logo of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza and the dates “1922 2022”, respectively the year of construction of the racetrack and the year of issue of the coin. To the right and left, the modern stands of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. At the top, in the circle, the inscription “100th ANNIVERSARY AUTODROMO”; on the left, the author’s name: A. VECCHIO; in the exergue, “R”, identification of the Mint of Rome and the value “5 EURO”.
