Aston Martin Lagonda showcases Electric Future

Aston Martin Lagonda hosts first Electric Future event in London
Newly unveiled Rapide E and Lagonda Vision Concept on display

26 June 2019, London: For two days in central London, Aston Martin Lagonda will be showcasing its zero emission powertrain technologies with the company’s first Electric Future event. Relaunched as the world’s first zero emission luxury brand in 2018, Lagonda will confound traditional thinking and take full advantage of the latest advances in electrification and autonomous driving technologies.
Sitting nose-to-nose will be the company’s first electric sports car, Rapide E and its all-electric Lagonda Vision Concept. With the Lagonda Vision Concept unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018 and Rapide E at the Shanghai Automotive Show a few months ago the event provides the first chance for the UK to preview the company’s future technologies.
Both cars will be on display on Wednesday ..

Anthony F. Earley, Jr.

Anthony F. Earley Jr. was elected to the Ford Motor Company board of directors in 2009. He serves on the nominating and governance committee and the sustainability and innovation committee, and as chair of the compensation committee. Mr. Earley serves as the board’s lead independent director.

Earley is the executive chairman of PG&E Corporation, as of March 2017. Beginning in 2011, he served as the chairman, chief executive officer and president of PG&E Corporation.

Previously, beginning in 2010, he was executive chairman of DTE Energy, having served as chairman and chief executive officer of the organization since 1998. Earley joined DTE Energy in 1994 as president and chief operating officer.

Prior to that, Earley served as president and chief operating officer of Long Island Lighting Company, an electric and gas utility in New York.

Christian Weingaertner is appointed director, Strategy & Business Transformation, Ford of Europe, effective Aug. 1, 2019.

In this new role, Weingaertner is responsible for the development of Ford of Europe business strategy, supporting culture change and for progressing the implementation of the organizational redesign of the business in Europe. He reports to Stuart Rowley, president, Ford of Europe, and John Lawler, vice president, Strategy, Ford Motor Company.

Weingaertner joins Ford from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he served most recently as partner in the automotive practice area. He began working with Ford in Dearborn, Mich., USA, as a BCG consultant in 2017, before consulting Ford of Europe beginning in 2018. Weingaertner joined BCG in 2008.

He earned a PhD in economics from the University of Zurich and a master’s degree in technology and management from the Technical Univer..

Beth E. Mooney was elected to the Ford Motor Company board of directors in 2019. She serves on the Audit and Nominating & Governance committees.

Mooney has more than 35 years of experience in retail banking, commercial lending and real estate financing.

She has served as chairman and chief executive officer of KeyCorp since May 2011. Mooney joined the company in April 2006 as vice chair of Key Community Bank, and in 2010 was elected to KeyCorp board of directors.

Questions arose when Tesla announced its new board chair, Robyn Denholm. How might the seasoned executive interface with Tesla’s hard-charging CEO Elon Musk? Richard Walters (via Financial Times) reports that “Ms Denholm has always described herself as direct — the product of a pragmatic Australian upbringing that has left her with a no-nonsense view of the world.”

It’s reported that, “Ms Denholm grew up in Milperra, a small town in Sydney’s sprawling western suburbs. Her parents owned a service station, where she used to pump petrol, do the accounts and repair cars — a pursuit that got her interested in automobiles.” Denholm went on to work at “Toyota in Australia, where she rose to the position of national finance manager and became one of the few women to reach a senior level at the time.”

Later, “Ms. Denholm left Australia for Silicon Valley,” transitioning into the tech sector working with the likes of Sun Microsystems and Juniper Networks. And according to Pierre Ferragu, a Wall Street analyst who covered Juniper Networks, “She has a proven record for dealing with very high-ego individuals.”

Ferragu says, “Robyn is the exact opposite: she can remain very calm, very stable. She is a less visible personality, but she’s very good at driving things without having to be in the lead.” He adds, “She has a quiet self-confidence … very on top of what was happening in the business.”

Denholm has taken calculated risks in her career to succeed. “I don’t jump out of planes or bungee jump or any of that stuff,” she told The Australian. “But I do take professional risks. You make the best decisions you can with all the information you have — and you have to move quickly. You’re not pushing hard enough if you never make mistakes.”

Denholm has been on Tesla’s board for four years, serving as non-executive director and chairing the board’s audit committee. In the Australian Financial Review, she was asked about her experience at Tesla and replied, “It’s great, and he [Musk] is great, he’s just phenomenal.”

In turn, Musk has admiration (and praise) for Denholm. He tweeted, “Would like to thank Robyn for joining the team. Great respect. Very much look forward to working together.” According to Tesla, “Robyn will be leaving her role as CFO and Head of Strategy at Telstra, Australia’s largest telecommunications company,” in order to serve as Tesla’s new board chair on a full-time basis.

The road ahead for the electric carmaker won’t be easy. Musk has noted that, “Tesla’s like a drama magnet.” But Denholm welcomes conflict. She’s openly discussed nurturing conflict while “teasing out those ideas” that bring about successful outcomes. At Telstra (see video above), she said, “I actually think conflict is great … I mean constructive conflict where you’ll actually debate around an idea or go backward and forwards on how to iterate on an idea. I think that’s really important.”
