Stuttgart

In July, 188,857 Mercedes-Benz cars were sold worldwide – more than ever before in a July (+12.7%). Double-digit sales growth in July in all three regions – Europe, Asia-Pacific and NAFTA – and in those regions’ core markets. Ongoing model changes deliver strong sales momentum for the compact cars in July (+29.7%). The best July of all time for Mercedes-Benz unit sales confirms our positive expectations for the coming months,” stated Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales. Stuttgart. Mercedes-Benz started the third quarter with a new sales record for the month of July: A total of 188,857 cars with the three-pointed star were delivered (+12.7%). The ongoing model changes in the high-volume compact-car segment had a positive impact on unit sales last month. There were also significant increases in worldwide unit sales in July of the S-Class Saloon (+17.7%), the E-Class Saloon and Estate (+11.1%) and the C-Class Saloon and Estate (+10.4%). Double-digit growth in unit sales was achieved in all regions and core markets in July. In the first seven months of the year, Mercedes-Benz defended its market leadership in the premium segment in markets including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Japan, South Korea and Canada.
“We are very satisfied with the start to the third quarter. The best July of all time for Mercedes-Benz unit sales confirms our positive expectations for the coming months,” stated Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales. “I am delighted with the great response from customers to our new compact cars and that the improved availability of our new SUVs has already had an impact on sales. And the Mercedes-Benz luxury and full-size saloons, the S-Class and the E-Class, were also very popular in July.”
Mercedes-Benz unit sales by region and market
In the Europe region, 73,633 Mercedes-Benz vehicles were sold in July (+12.3%). Sales of 26,331 units in Germany, the domestic market, were 18.2% higher than in the prior-year month. With 173,682 cars with the star sold from January to July, unit sales were at the prior-year level again. Unit sales increased in July in nearly all European markets. Compared with July 2018, double-digit growth rates were achieved in markets including France, Russia, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and Sweden. Last month was the best-ever July in the United Kingdom, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Poland, Denmark and Hungary.
A new July record was set for deliveries in the Asia-Pacific region, where 82,039 cars with the star were handed over to customers (+11.6%). In China, the region’s core market, the Stuttgart-based company with the three-pointed star sold 59,435 vehicles in July (+13.0%). Mercedes-Benz thus set new records in China for cars delivered both in July and for the first seven months of the year (404,092 units, +2.9%). Mercedes-Benz started the third quarter with best-ever unit sales in July also in South Korea and Australia.
In the NAFTA region, the Stuttgart-based company with the three-pointed star posted significant growth in unit sales in July: 29,241 cars delivered represent an increase of 17.5% compared with the prior-year month. The strong development of sales in July was primarily driven by the region’s core market, the United States, where 24,612 cars with the star were sold last month (+22.9%). In the first seven months of the year, sales by Mercedes-Benz in the United States totalled 172,008 vehicles (-3.8%), a significant improvement of sales development compared with the previous month June.
Mercedes-Benz unit sales by model
With sales of more than 55,000 units, the compact cars with the star recorded double-digit growth of 29.7% in July. Last month, the new B-Class actually achieved very strong worldwide growth of 52.7%. The new B-Class has been available also in Japan since July. In the first seven months of the year, more than 368,000 units of the A- and B-Class, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake and GLA were sold worldwide (+7.3%). The popularity of the new A-Class continues, with growth in unit sales of 33.6% in the months of January to July. New records were therefore set by the compact cars both for July and for the first seven months of the year.
Last month, approximately 5,800 units of the S-Class Saloon were sold worldwide (+17.7%). This growth was driven especially by China, the biggest sales market for the Mercedes-Benz luxury automobile. The S-Class Maybach also achieved strong growth worldwide in July.
In the SUV segment, improved vehicle availability had a positive impact last month: sales of approximately 61,000 units of the GLA, GLC, GLC Coupé, GLE, GLE Coupé, GLS and G-Class were just 1.2% below the prior-year level. Sales of the G-Class in the first seven months of the year are already on the way to setting a new record in 2019: more than 20,000 units were sold worldwide from January to July (+78.7%).

Already there. The new Sprinter for Camper Vans: Mercedes-Benz is starting its camper van campaign for the new Sprinter

01.

August 2019

Stuttgart

Stuttgart. Mercedes-Benz is starting its international marketing campaign “Already there. The new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for Camper Vans”. And the special thing about it is that the vehicle manufacturer from Stuttgart will be launching its very first campaign specifically for camper vans based on its iconic Sprinter van. The core element of the campaign will be formed by two videos which can already be seen online.
“Whether you're planning a family holiday or a spontaneous rock-climbing trip with friends, travelling in camper vans is extremely fun for all those involved. And the camper van market is booming at present.
We would like to play a more active part in this development than has previously been the case. That's why we have consistently developed the third-generation Sprinter to meet the requirements of this segment and made it even more suitable than ever before for camper van bodies and installations. Camper van features of our new Sprinter will now be highlighted as part of a specific advertising campaign which will predominantly serve digital communications channels. And our aim here is clear: show that, with the Sprinter, you'll get that holiday feeling as soon as you pull away”, says Marion Friese, Head of Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Vans.
About the campaign
The core element of the marketing campaign is formed by two videos. The “Are we there yet?” advert takes a light-hearted look at a typical holiday situation with which parents of younger children will be more than familiar. Already before pulling away, the kids ask: “When will we be there?” Initially the father of the family is silent, but with a glance at the Sprinter, he calmly answers: “Now we're there.” The second ad, entitled “Call me when you arrive”, will also bring a smile to viewers' faces. When saying goodbye at the house door, the grandmother tells her daughter to: “Call me as soon as you get there.” This request is promptly honoured. Without having even driven a single metre, the mother gets into the Sprinter and says: “We're there.” Both videos are already available to watch at: https://youtu.be/lR_NW3mPiNc
Are we there yet?

and https://youtu.be/A-oXj3B_BVg.
Call me when you arrive.

Adverts in printed media and a range of social media measures will round off the campaign. The latter will bear the #SprinterTravel hashtag. Implementation and development of the campaign are the result of a collaboration with the Preuss und Preuss creative agency.
About the Sprinter
At the beginning of 2018, the new Sprinter celebrated its premiere and, with a huge range of interesting highlights, already proved to be an exciting proposition for camping fans and camper van bodybuilders alike. Of particular interest was the traction head variant. This version opens up a new level of design freedom for creating living areas as the drive system, fuel tank and all other major assemblies are located in front of the so-called B-pillar and thus in the area around the cab. Depending on the body version, pleasant cruising speeds are achieved either using four or six-cylinder diesel engines. Transmission options include the 6-speed manual transmission, as well as the 9G-TRONIC and 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearboxes. The third-generation Sprinter also features an array of safety and assistance systems which were previously reserved exclusively for Mercedes-Benz passenger car model series. Then there are the ground-breaking networking and telematics solutions such as the MBUX multimedia system, familiar from the A-Class, for example. In 2019, the Sprinter will be enhanced by means of another useful highlight for camper vans: the newly developed “Mercedes-Benz Advanced Control” (MBAC) interface module will soon allow camper vans based on the Sprinter to become a networked home on wheels. Possibilities range from the central display of the gas fill level right up to controlling the heating or light intensity and colour using either a touch display in the vehicle or a mobile phone app.[1]
Besides providing attractive base vehicles like the new Sprinter, Mercedes-Benz also has a range of compact Marco Polo camper vans and leisure vehicles in its portfolio for camping enthusiasts.
[1] The “Mercedes-Benz Advanced Control” (MBAC) interface module is optionally available for the Sprinter. Integration is the responsibility of the respective camper van bodybuilders.
