Stuttgart/Beijing. At “Auto China 2018” in Beijing, Mercedes-Benz is presenting the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury. The design of the crossover, based on an exclusive high-end saloon and an SUV, follows the philosophy of Sensual Purity. The show car combines the comfort and typical strengths of both body styles. These include the raised seating position and the athletic looks. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury is conceived as an electric vehicle with four compact permanent-magnet synchronous motors and fully variable all-wheel drive.
“The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury is a totally new archetype of a kind never seen before,” says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer at Daimler AG. “Our concept combines the DNA of an SUV with that of a saloon to produce an ultra-modern SUV of three-box design,” says Wagener. “With sensuality and pure sophistication, we have created a timeless vehicle that underscores the position of Mercedes-Maybach as the ultimate luxury brand.”
Continuing the Mercedes-Maybach success story
The concept vehicle not only embodies the Mercedes-Maybach design language, it also reflects the traditional brand values while continuing the successful Mercedes-Maybach story. True to the principle of creating “the very best from the very best”, Mercedes-Maybach stands for the ultimate in luxury while uniting the perfection of Mercedes-Benz with the exclusivity of Maybach.
The show car also merges influences from the Western and Far Eastern hemispheres to deliver an appealing automotive cultural dialogue. For instance, use is made of “Magic Wood”, ebony, which is traditional in Chinese furniture design. The same motif is also underlined by the combination of SUV and notchback saloon, which are the most successful body styles not only internationally, but especially on the Chinese market.
In the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury, spaciousness and comfort, in combination with the raised seating position, elegant design and finest materials, particularly in the rear, give rise to a luxury experience at the highest level. The vehicle stands in exemplary manner for the typical Mercedes-Maybach values: traditional craftsmanship, uniqueness and individualisation.
Exterior design: harmony of sensuality and purity
Smooth, extravagant surfaces with no beads or sharp edges create an image of sporty elegance: the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury has a majestic look. With its balanced proportions, the vehicle has tremendous presence.
The front end is accentuated by the distinctive chrome-plated radiator grille with its fine vertical bars in the style of a pinstripe suit. The new grille design celebrated its world premiere in the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, the exclusive coupé concept car that delighted aficionados and fans of the brand in 2016. It also inspired the latest reinterpretation for the Mercedes-Maybach S‑Class.
In combination with the low-profile front headlamps with three lamp units, the grille dominates the front view of the vehicle while emphasising its brand affiliation. The large air inlets along with the horizontal air inlet with integral chrome blades underline the sportiness of the SUV saloon while lending it a dynamic look. The air inlets are crossed by the brand's typical honeycomb pattern. A continuous trim strip extends from the split bonnet across the roof through to the rear end.
Unlike a conventional saloon, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury offers a significantly higher, SUV-typical seating position and therefore a sublime driving experience. This addresses the desire of many customers for a feeling of protection and security – a challenge for the designers. Ultimately, the task was to harmoniously transfer the familiar three-box design – bonnet, passenger compartment and boot – to an SUV-like architecture. This produces an interesting tension between the poles of sportiness and Mercedes-Maybach luxury.
The upright C-pillar, long, gently forward-sloping bonnet and compact notchback dominate the sportily elegant side view. The muscular volume of the flank is accentuated by a long wheelbase and short rear overhangs. The overall appearance is rounded off by 24‑i nch turbine-look wheels.
Truncated running boards in machined aluminium are integrated in the lower door area. They are illuminated in white and bear the Maybach logo. The overall vehicle is accentuated by subtle chrome trim above the running boards as well as in the lower area of the front and rear ends. The electrically extending door handles are flush with the sides.
At the rear end, the three-part lamps are reminiscent of the design of the front headlamps. Situated above them is the visually vertically split rear window. Another striking feature is the modelled underride guard with diffuser look. It, too, is permeated by the Maybach pattern from the front end.
Sublimeness meets lightness: interior design
The interior of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury features an exciting contrast between high-level sportiness and luxurious spaciousness. This show car is the ultimate embodiment of a luxury dream automobile. The goal of the interior designers was to provide echoes of the series-produced vehicles while, however, transporting them into an unprecedented world of luxury. They created a symbiosis of sportiness, modernity and elegance, giving an idea of coming generations of Mercedes-Maybach models.
Exclusive materials with high-grade highlights exude exquisite quality in the interior, thereby underlining the vehicle's superlative luxury. The generous feeling of spaciousness, together with the high-contrast colour compositions, make for a hitherto unattained luxury experience. The colours employed are typical of the brand, such as rosé gold, crystal white and pearl grey. Flowing forms, delicate fabrics and aluminium parts create an exciting contrast between the sportily elegant details of an SUV and the lightness of a saloon.
As the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury is intended primarily for chauffeur-driven use, its design is strongly focused on the rear passengers and their well-being. It is in the rear that the feeling of cosy spaciousness is at its most intense.
The driver's area and cockpit are reduced to the essentials. Air vents, which reflect the design of the radiator grille, surround the free-standing Widescreen Cockpit with double 12.3‑inch displays. The feeling of spaciousness is further enhanced by a light, contrasting bottom part of the instrument panel as well as by the reduced height of the dashboard. Overall, the interior creates an atmosphere of luxurious cosiness that allows the occupants to relax pleasantly. To emphasise the visual lightness, the rosé gold frame of the front seats is open, exposing the white leather to view. The colour/material scheme celebrates the superlative luxury of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach with exquisite materials and breathtaking surfaces.
The luxurious lightness of the interior is emphasised by the colours crystal white, finest nappa leather and a sensual shade of brown that features a light metallic finish on the instrument panel. Gleaming surfaces in polished aluminium generate exciting reflections while mirroring the highlight: the rosé gold-coated seats. The claim to the ultimate in luxury goes hand-in-hand with extreme technical challenges. For instance, the intense Mercedes-Maybach signature red metallic finish is applied by expert hand in several coats. Tradition and modernity are reflected in the form of appealing contrasts. The entire interior is surrounded by a large-area trim level. Dark ebony forms an exciting contrast with the surrounding areas of white leather. Wave-like, flowing lines of light are integrated flush into the wood surfaces, impressively uniting the analogue and digital worlds. The tailored seat upholstery layouts take up the lines of the trim while giving a reinterpretation to the typical diamond shape. The fine perforations are in rosé gold. Thought through down to the smallest detail, crafted with love and affection.
Modelled on the S-Class
As in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, the especially comfortable seats impress with their adjustment kinematics. Unlike in a conventional saloon, the backrest is adjusted separately while the footwell and seat reference point remain unchanged. The cushion can be adjusted separately, while the seat angle and height adjustment are combined. Extra-soft knee cushions afford protection and comfort. The reclining seats feature a calf support, which is freely adjustable for length and angle. The crystal white nappa leather seats are enhanced by diamond stitching in rosé gold.
The wide centre console extends through to the rear. It is equipped with an integral, heated tray with teapot and cups, allowing exquisite tea-drinking enjoyment while on the road. The philosophy of tea plays a key role in bringing body and mind into balance while discovering the path to inner calm and vitality.
The tea service is integrated into a sculpted wooden tray made of ebony, known as “Magic Wood”. At the press of a button, the handmade service of finest china can be electrically retracted into the console under a sliding cover finished in high-gloss black.
Enhanced user experience at the highest level
The Mercedes-Benz user experience, too, represents the definitive embodiment of a luxury dream car. The design language is warmer and brighter, creating a luxurious atmosphere. The car was created entirely in a 3D real-time graphic environment. Like a butler, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury acts with anticipation, instead of offering long menus and lists. The vehicle plays music to match the current mood, knows the appointment calendar and plans the routes accordingly. In the rear, various flavours of tea and relaxation programmes are on offer, depending on who the rear passenger is.
The familiar ENERGIZING comfort control has been carried over from the S‑Class. Systems such as massage, fragrancing, light and music are combined, helping to regenerate and improve concentration. This holistic comfort and infotainment system can be individually programmed and adapted for every world market.
The highlight of the Mercedes-Benz user experience in the Vision Mercedes‑Maybach Ultimate Luxury is the comprehensive touch control concept – a combination of touchscreen, touchpad on the centre console and Touch Control buttons in the steering wheel. Alongside the intuitive control experience, reduced driver distraction is a further advantage.
The control concept of the free-standing Widescreen Cockpit comprises three levels with rising information density: home screen, base screen and a submenu. The voice control adjusts to the user's voice and adapts new vogue words or changed use of language. In addition, the system does not employ stereotypical responses, but uses interactive variation.
On the aesthetic front, it is based on the traditional Chinese ink painting style with its simplicity, white surfaces and balanced proportions.
State-of-the-art powertrain and suspension technology
The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury is conceived as an electric car. Thanks to its four compact permanent-magnet synchronous motors, it offers fully variable all-wheel drive. The output from the powertrain is 550 kW (750 hp). The flat underfloor battery has a usable capacity of around 80 kWh, producing an NEDC range of over 500 kilometres (according to EPA: over 200 miles). The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
The fast-charging function is also convenient: thanks to DC charging based on the CCS standard, the system allows a charging capacity of up to 350 kW. In just five minutes, enough power can be charged to achieve an additional range of around 100 kilometres.
The battery can be charged by cable at public charging stations, conventional domestic socket outlets or, even more conveniently, by induction. The charging current is contactlessly transmitted by an electromagnetic field below the car.
An eye on the future: visionary show cars
With its generous dimensions, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury (length/width/height: 5260 x 2110 x 1764 millimetres) represents a continuation of the series of visionary design show cars from Mercedes-Benz. The series so far includes the Vision EnerG‑Force (Los Angeles, November 2012), AMG Vision Gran Turismo (Sunnyvale, 2013), Vision Tokyo (Tokyo, 2015), Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupé (Pebble Beach, 2016) and Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet (Pebble Beach, 2017). Thanks to the global footprint of Mercedes-Benz Design, these concept vehicles take their cue from local trends in design, culture and mobility while making them the focal point of the respective mobility concept.
Mercedes-Maybach: perfection blended with exclusivity
Mercedes-Maybach stands for the ultimate in exclusivity and individuality. The target group includes customers who place value on exquisite luxury, perfect craftsmanship and exceptional appointments. The current vehicles include, launched in 2017, the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 4MATIC (combined fuel consumption: 9.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 209 g/km). The absolute top-of-the range model from the luxury brand is the Pullman (combined fuel consumption: 14.6 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 330 g/km) with vis-à-vis seating layout behind the partition. With a length of 6.50 metres, it is the longest model of the S‑Class family.

The C-Class is being launched with new engines:
This includes the new four-cylinder petrol engines with a displacement of 1.5 litres in the C 200 and the C 200 4MATIC. At the same time these models are equipped with an additional 48 V on-board network with a belt-driven starter-alternator (EQ Boost). When accelerating, EQ Boost can assist the engine with an additional 10 kW (14 hp), bridging the brief moment until the turbocharger has built up its full charge pressure. Other advantages include the gliding mode with the engine switched off, and the recuperative brake with intelligent engine stop when the vehicle is coasting. The new C 220 d has a four-cylinder diesel engine, which belongs to the latest family of engines. With an output of 143 kW (194 hp), it delivers 18 kW (24 hp) more than the predecessor model. Innovative features include the combination of aluminium crankcase and steel pistons, the stepped-bowl combustion process as well as further-improved NANOSLIDE® cylinder wall coating. The 3.0-litre V6 engine in the AMG C 43 4MATIC now develops 287 kW (390 hp), in other words 17 kW (23 hp) more than before. The peak torque of 520 Nm is available in a broad engine speed range from 2500 to 5000 rpm. Here are the most important new and improved functions at a glance:
With the Driving Assistance package Plus (2499 euros incl. VAT), the C-Class features all the latest driving assistance systems, with a range of functions that is familiar from the S-Class and route-based driver support. Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist now provide even more comfortable support for the driver in steering and keeping a safe distance. The speed is now adjusted automatically ahead of bends, junctions or roundabouts. The DYNAMIC BODY CONTROL suspension (1071 euros incl. VAT), is equipped with continuous adjustable damping for the front and rear axle. The stepless system controls the damping characteristics individually for each wheel as it interacts with the engine, transmission and steering properties – to suit the driving situation, speed and condition of the road surface. The individual suspension setup can be determined in the three stages “Sport”, “Sport+” and “Comfort” via the DYNAMIC SELECT switch. The MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with ULTRA RANGE Highbeam (934.15 euros incl. VAT) feature 84 individually controllable LEDs in each headlamp. These allow extremely quick and precise, electronically controlled adjustment of the headlamps to suit the current traffic situation. New functions in comparison to the standard-fit LED Intelligent Light System (19 LEDs per headlamp) are the junction light, roundabout light, city light and adverse weather light. When no other road user is detected, the road ahead is straight and the vehicle speed is above 40 km/h, ULTRA RANGE Highbeam is switched on automatically. This produces the maximum light intensity permitted by law, which results in the brightness of the main beam headlamps only falling below the reference value of 1 lux after a distance of more than 650 metres. The fully-digital Instrument Display (892.50 euros incl. VAT) comprises a 12.3-inch, high-resolution instrument cluster. The cutting-edge screen design offers the three very different display styles “Classic”, “Sport” and “Progressive”. The styles can be switched easily according to personal preference or to suit the selected interior. ENERGIZING comfort control (238 euros incl. VAT) links various comfort systems in the vehicle. It systematically uses the functions of the air conditioning system (including fragrancing) and the seats (heating, ventilation), as well as lighting and musical moods, to create a specific wellness set-up tailored to the customer's preferences. The latest-generation COMAND Online (2915.50 euros incl. VAT) offers fast 3D hard-disc navigation with topographical map display, photo-realistic 3D buildings and 3D map rotations, among other things. Comprehensive information is displayed on the navigation map: in addition to virtually real-time traffic density information, it can for example show Car-to-X warning messages, the weather, filling stations including current fuel prices and available parking spaces. New to the range of optional extras is an additional sound system (416.50 euros incl. VAT). With nine speakers and an output of 225 W (2 x Frontbass with 50 W, remaining five channels each with 25 W), it is positioned between the standard sound system and the Burmester® surround sound system. New Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC models: comprehensive update
With four body variants, three output levels and two drive system layouts, the C-Class is the most versatile and most successful model series from Mercedes‑AMG. Comprehensive measures make the entry-level models in the guise of the C 43 4MATIC Saloon, Estate, Coupé and Cabriolet even more attractive. The AMG radiator grille in a twin-louvre design, the powerfully sculpted front apron and the new rear apron with round twin tailpipe trim elements visibly enhance the new C 43 models and give them an even more distinct positioning. The interior benefits from an optional fully digital cockpit (893.50 euros incl. VAT) with unmistakable AMG displays and the new generation of AMG steering wheels.
The 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine now delivers 287 kW (390 hp). Together with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and the rear-biased all-wheel drive system AMG Performance 4MATIC, this powerful engine combines agile driving dynamics with exceptional comfort on long journeys. The AMG styling package (1785 euros incl. VAT) adds even sportier highlights: the more expressive front splitter, standard-fit spoiler lip, broader side skirt inserts and flics in the rear bumper are finished in high-gloss black. The further equipment options include the Carbon-Fibre package II (2082.50 euros incl. VAT), in which the exterior-mirror housings and the spoiler lip on the boot lid, or in the case of the Estate the roof spoiler, are finished in black visible carbon fibre. The Night package (535.50 euros incl. VAT) comprises black elements, such as the trim on the front apron and the tailpipe trim.
As the virtual race engineer for recording data when driving on closed-off race tracks, AMG TRACK PACE provides a significantly extended and even more precise scope of functions. TRACK PACE can be ordered as an option for the COMAND Online infotainment system (178.50 euros incl. VAT). If this function is enabled, over 80 vehicle-specific sets of data (e.g. speed, acceleration) are recorded ten times per second. On top of this there are displays of lap and sector times, as well as of the respective difference for a reference time.
[1] All stated figures were determined in accordance with the prescribed measuring method. These are the “NEDC CO2 figures” according to Art. 2 No. 1 Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1153. The fuel consumption figures were calculated on the basis of these figures.

Stuttgart/Amsterdam. ViaVan, the joint venture of Mercedes-Benz Vans and Via, launched its service in Amsterdam in early March 2018. The Dutch capital is thus the first city in Europe where this ecologically and economically sustainable alternative form of mobility is available. Amsterdam and the business model of ViaVan are an ideal fit. In addition to Copenhagen, Vienna and Barcelona, the Netherland's most populous city can call itself a Smart City and plays a leading role in Europe in the area of sustainable mobility and innovations.

On-demand van ridesharing for more efficient transportation
Thanks to an innovative technology that enables trips to be pooled, several passengers travel together without any protracted detours and delays. With the help of an app, riders can select their desired starting point as well as their destination. The system uses sophisticated algorithms created by the software experts from Via to calculate very efficiently and in real time which journeys can be “pooled” without significant detours. In this way, passengers with similar or the same destinations are brought together and transported jointly in a ViaVan.
For maximum efficiency and to arrive at the planned destination without major detours and/or delays, the app uses so-called virtual stops, e.g. junctions, where passengers can get on or off. The aim is to pool trips and consequently reduce the number of vehicles in the city. In contrast to private transport, this requires fewer vehicles, while increasing the available mobility capacity at the same time. In this way, the ridesharing service complements both the public transport system as well as already existing mobility offers – and it does so at a favourable price. The digital fare comprises a basic price – there is a fixed price in the city centre of Amsterdam – as well as a time or distance-based surcharge for outlying areas. The offer from ViaVan lies somewhere between the rate for classic local public transport and a taxi fare. Booking the journey by app ensures that the price that will ultimately be charged is known when the booking is made and no longer changes. Payment is made cashless via the app, which is fast, easy, convenient, and secure.
The idea of US-American start-up Via already managed to establish itself in New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. Around 1.5 million trips are made there each year, with already more than 30 million successful trips having been made worldwide since the market launch. Via, which has been in existence since 2013 and is based in New York, founded the joint venture ViaVan together with Mercedes-Benz Vans in September of last year. Other cities will soon follow after the successful market launch in Amsterdam. These include Berlin and London, where the service will also be launched soon pending final approvals.
Long-term strategic partnership to further develop the mobility concept
Mercedes-Benz Vans and Via are jointly working on the advancement of intelligent mobility, which also comprises the optimisation of the use of Mercedes vans in ridesharing services. At present, the company uses mainly the Vito Tourer (up to nine seats) and the V-Class (up to eight seats), which are continuously adapted to this particular purpose. Thanks to its high configuration flexibility and connectivity, the new Sprinter will in future also see increased duty for certain applications where additional seats are required. Besides the further development of advanced software and sensor systems, the focus of the long-term strategic partnership is also on the use of battery-electric and thus locally emission-free vans as well as on autonomous driving.

Last Wednesday, ViaVan was launched in London. From now on ViaVan offers its innovative on-demand ridesharing service as an ecologically and economically valuable addition to the existing mobility services in the capital. Last year, ViaVan, the joint venture of Mercedes-Benz Vans and the US based start-up Via, announced that they will offer their ridesharing service here, among other places. Now, the London authorities granted the license to operate. At the start, rides in Zones one and two, in the heart of central London, are offered at an introductory price of £ 3 (GBP).
After the successful launch in Amsterdam just four weeks ago, London is the second metropolis in Europe where the young company is active. Other cities, including Berlin, will follow as soon as the required permits are obtained.
Shared rides without delays
The principle behind ViaVan is as simple as efficient: the system combines travel requests with the same or similar goals in real time. The passengers are guided by the app to a nearby, virtual stop, where they are then picked up by a professional driver. The algorithm behind the system ensures that the rides are only minimally delayed despite the intermediate stops and that hardly any detours arise through intelligent route planning. The bundling of rides will sustainably relieve traffic in the city and at the same time increase mobility capacity.
Attractive conditions, security and service
The young mobility company offers attractive conditions for drivers, including an attractive compensation system and high flexibility in shift choice and length. In addition, the company ensures that drivers never exceed their maximum shift duration, which is ten hours. Passengers can contact ViaVan at any time for problems or questions thanks to 24/7 support.

In March, Mercedes-Benz sold more than 237,000 passenger cars for the first time in one single month (+3.9%). The strongest-selling quarter in the company’s history was achieved (594,304 units, +6.0%). China was the biggest growth driver in the first quarter with an increase of 17.2%. The GLC was the best-selling SUV in the first quarter with growth in unit sales of more than 33%. Stuttgart –Mercedes-Benz sold 237,307 cars this March, surpassing its sales record from the prior-year month by 3.9%. March was the strongest-selling month that the company has ever achieved and the past three months were the most successful quarter of all time with a total of 594,304 customers taking delivery of their car with the three-pointed star (+6.0%). Mercedes-Benz was the premium-market leader with the most registrations in March in countries including Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Sweden, Portugal, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada and Brazil.
“We once again emphasized our claim to leadership in the first quarter: With sales of more than 237,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in March, we achieved our strongest-selling month of all time and our best-ever quarter,” stated Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales. “We started the spring season with our Mercedes-Benz dream cars worldwide: The new C-Class Cabriolet and Coupé were presented to the world public for the first time in New York and the new CLS has been available in Europe since March,” she continued.
Mercedes-Benz unit sales by region and market
In the Europe region alone, 109,252 cars with the star were sold last month, setting a new sales record for a month, and 238,131 units were sold in the first quarter (+2.1%). Germany was responsible for a large proportion of this success with a 5.2% increase in first-quarter sales to 74,262 units. In nearly all major European markets, Mercedes-Benz delivered more cars in the first three months of 2018 than in the prior-year period. New records were set for first-quarter unit sales in France, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Poland and Portugal.
In the Asia-Pacific region, demand for cars with the star reached the new high of 88,976 units in March (+13.1%). Since the beginning of the year, 249,106 customers there were delighted to receive their new Mercedes-Benz (+13.5%) – more than ever before in the first quarter of a year. The biggest sales driver worldwide was China with a new record of 169,932 cars delivered from January to March (+17.2%). More than two thirds of all the cars sold there were also produced in China. New sales records were set in the first three months of this year also in South Korea, India and Malaysia. In Thailand as well, Mercedes-Benz sold more vehicles than in any previous first quarter. In order to satisfy the growing demand in that market, Daimler and its local partner Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant (TAAP) will together invest more than 100 million euros in the production facility in Bangkok by 2020. This investment will go into the expansion of the existing automobile plant and into a battery production facility at the location to ensure the availability of the latest technology for electrified vehicles and “EQ Power” plug-in hybrids from Thailand.
In the NAFTA region, 33,986 customers received their new cars with the star in March (-2.7%) and 93,375 in the first quarter (-0.8%). The very high prior-year levels were therefore nearly matched. In the USA, Mercedes-Benz delivered a total of 78,474 cars in the first quarter (-0.8%). In the first quarter, Mercedes-Benz was the best-selling premium brand in the USA.
Mercedes-Benz unit sales by model
The SUVs from Mercedes-Benz constituted the most popular segment in the first quarter. In March, more than 80,000 units were sold for the first time in one single month (+13.9%). Also in the first quarter of this year they achieved a new sales record: A total of 211,636 customers chose an SUV with the three-pointed star (+12.5%). The current bestselling SUV from Mercedes-Benz, the GLC, achieved unit sales 33.4% higher than the number sold in the first quarter of last year. Sales of the GLC Coupé also set a new first-quarter record.
The new S-Class contributed to the company’s success with strong growth rates. In the first quarter, demand for the luxury saloon was 29.4% higher than in the prior-year period at 22,691 units. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Saloon posted record sales in March and the first quarter, although its model change is coming up soon. In the first quarter, more than one in eight S-Class Saloons sold was a Mercedes-Maybach.
Mercedes-Benz increased its sales of roadsters, coupés and convertibles to 42,788 units in the first three months of this year (+4.0%). Nothing now stands in the way of the dream car season: The S-Class Coupé and Cabriolet are available in the United States as of now. The CLS is in the showrooms in Europe. And a few days ago, the new C-Class Coupé and Cabriolet were presented at the New York International Auto Show. The completely renewed C-Class family has therefore now been presented and should continue contributing to the sales growth at Mercedes-Benz.
smart
The current generation of the smart fortwo has already been on the market for four years. Nonetheless, the 30,000 mark was passed for the third time in succession in the first quarter, with 30,726 units of the smart fortwo und forfour handed over to customers (-10.0%). The urban microcar posted double-digit growth and a new sales record in Germany. Its success in the domestic market is partially due to strong demand for the electric smart models. Today, every third e-car sold in Germany is a smart: Since July 2017, we have sold more of the electric smart models of the current generation than of the predecessor in the years 2013 and 2014 together. These cars have been marketed under the EQ product and technology brand since March.
News from sales and service
The new Mercedes-Benz US headquarters, in which approximately 100 million US dollars have been invested, was inaugurated in March. MBUSA has its headquarters as well as its sales and marketing organization for Mercedes-Benz Cars and Vans in Sandy Springs, about 22 kilometers (14 miles) outside Atlanta, with capacity for up to 1,000 people. More than 1,700 people work for MBUSA, with indirect employment to more than 25,000 at 381 dealerships nationwide.
Following the success of the first me Convention in Frankfurt last year, Mercedes-Benz and South by Southwest® (SXSW®) continue their partnership in 2018. In this context, the me Convention was a guest at SXSW in Austin, Texas in March. 10,000 visitors from more than 100 countries came to Palm Park to experience the me Convention spirit in Austin between 9 and 15 March. The me Convention offers an open and inspiring platform for creative people from various specializations and has a clear focus on dialogue, interaction, networking and entertainment. The next me Convention will be held in Stockholm from 4 to 6 September.
