Stuttgart. Alongside the A-Class, the G-Class and the new four-door Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé, highlights at this year's Geneva Motor Show include the world premiere of the new C-Class in Saloon and Estate guise with new petrol and diesel engines, and as plug-in hybrid models. The press conference will start on the first press day, 6 March, at 12.30 p.m. in Hall 6.
Now in its fifth year of production, the C-Class is the most successful model series from Mercedes-Benz and boasts a wealth of enhancements. The design of the exterior and interior benefits from a stylish makeover. The electronic architecture is completely new. Options include a fully digital instrument display and multimedia systems featuring customised information and music offerings. The assistance systems likewise benefit from the new electronic architecture and are now on a par with those of the S‑Class.
The C-Class in its current generation was Mercedes-Benz's top-selling model in its fourth year on sale. The brand sold a combined total of over 415,000 Saloon and Estate models worldwide in 2017.
The new-look C-Class combines emotionality with intelligence. The vehicle's new appearance is defined in particular by its front end and the design of the headlamps and tail lights. On the new version, the AMG Line features the diamond radiator grille as standard. The front bumpers have been redesigned for all lines. They feature either a silver trim strip (standard), a chrome-plated trim strip (in combination with AVANTGARDE exterior) or a three-part chrome trim strip (EXCLUSIVE exterior).
The design of the front and rear lamps is defined by clear-lined contours. High-quality, sculpted details underline the sophisticated look and feel. MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with ULTRA RANGE high beam are available for this model series for the first time.
The sporty interior displays a premium look and feel as well as flowing forms. The centre console is characterised by an elegant flowing trim. This is available in open-pore brown walnut or open-pore anthracite oak. The 3D real wood veneer in the centre console combines a hand-crafted character with a modern feel. New interior colours include magma grey/black, plus saddle brown for the AMG Line interior.
The C-Class adopts the control and display concept from the current S‑Class and comes with the option of a fully digital instrument display with three individually selectable display styles. The C‑Class has touch-sensitive controls in the steering wheel. The operation of DISTRONIC and cruise control with controls directly on the steering wheel is another new feature. The infotainment system can additionally be operated via the touchpad with controller (new: haptic feedback) in the centre console or by means of LINGUATRONIC voice control.
The new C-Class features the latest driving assistance systems, offering the driver cooperative support and providing for a higher standard of active safety than its predecessor. The C‑Class is able to drive semi-autonomously in certain situations. The C‑Class also uses map and navigation data for assistance functions. For example, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC as part of the Driving Assistance package is able to support the driver in numerous situations on the basis of map information and predictively adjust the speed e.g. when approaching bends, junctions or roundabouts. Other new developments include intuitively understandable Active Lane Change Assist and Active Emergency Stop Assist as new functions of Active Steering Assist.
The optionally available MULTIBEAM LED headlamps are new to the C‑Class. Each headlamp incorporates 84 individually controllable LEDs. These allow extremely quick and precise, electronically controlled adjustment of the headlamps to suit the current traffic situation.
ENERGIZING comfort control (optional) links various comfort systems in the vehicle. It systematically uses the functions of the climate control system (including fragrancing) and the seats (heater, ventilation, massage) as well as lighting and musical moods, and enables a specific wellness set-up tailored to the mood and need of the customer. This has positive effects on wellbeing and driver performance.
World premiere: new four-door Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé
There are not one but two world premieres from the sports car and performance brand Mercedes-AMG at the show on the banks of Lake Geneva: alongside the new four-door Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé, further new arrivals include the new C‑Class entry-level models of the AMG 43 series.
EQ: the electric brand is gathering pace
Mercedes-Benz Cars is continuing its electric offensive: in Geneva, the product and technology brand EQ is providing a look ahead to the future portfolio of this umbrella brand and, as part of this strategic and model-policy realignment, is showcasing the first series-production model with battery-electric drive. Various latest-generation plug-in hybrid models are also celebrating their world premieres. They combine the latest hybrid technology from Mercedes-Benz with the latest-generation diesel engine (OM 654).
With the smart edition nightsky (combined electrical consumption 13.0–12.9 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 0 g/km), smart is showing the next step towards electrical intelligence. Simple and uncomplicated use of locally emission-free electric mobility is facilitated by a new smart app (likely to be available from the third quarter of 2018). Users can check the current status of their vehicle at any time via smartphone or watch. Charge level and range are shown as examples. A new 22 kW onboard charger will be available from March 2018.
Other important new products from Mercedes-Benz Cars
The new G-Class is being unveiled to the European public for the first time in Geneva, while the new A‑Class is making its debut in Switzerland.
Geneva is also the location for the world premiere of the Mercedes-Benz X‑Class featuring a powerful six-cylinder engine and permanent all-wheel drive. The Mercedes-Benz X‑Class combines the typical attributes of a pickup – robust, functional, durable and off-road capable – with the classic strengths of a genuine Mercedes – design, comfort, driving dynamics and safety. With its SUV design as a hallmark feature of the brand, the X‑Class fits smoothly into the Mercedes-Benz portfolio.
Luxury brand Mercedes-Maybach has chosen Geneva as the location for the world premiere of the new Mercedes-Maybach S‑Class. A new radiator grille, optional two-tone paintwork and new exclusive colour combinations in the interior ensure an even more majestic look.
Numerous new special models are also on display at the show. These include:
Exclusive Edition: S-Class Coupé and Cabriolet Night Edition: This exclusively elegant series of compact models impresses with a combination of AMG bodystyling on the exterior and Urban Line with white elements in the interior. The press conference will start on the first press day, 6 March, at 12.30 p.m. in Hall 6. With Mercedes me media, anybody who wants to can be there live – wherever they are in the world – at media.mercedes-benz.com. Press materials, photos and videos relating to the new products are available via a constantly updated media hub. “Meet Mercedes” sees the continuation of an event format from last year: Here journalists can meet in relaxed surroundings on 5 March, the day before the 88th Geneva Motor Show, to get an early look at the new products from Mercedes-Benz Cars and talk informally with the Daimler experts. “Meet Mercedes” takes place in the Espace Hippomène from 2 to 10 p.m.

Fuel consumption combined: 12.7 – 8.8 l/100 km; Combined CO2 emissions: 289 – 197 g/km*Stuttgart/Geneva. Mercedes-Maybach stands for the ultimate in exclusivity and individuality. The luxury brand combines the perfection of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class with the exclusivity of Maybach. Now the top model from Mercedes-Benz is even more refined. A new radiator grille, optional two-tone paintwork and new exclusive colour combinations in the interior ensure an even more majestic look. The world premiere is at the Geneva Motor Show (6.3. to 18.3.2018). The sales start is in April 2018.
A reinterpretation of the Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille with its fine, vertical struts accentuates the front end. The grille was inspired by a pinstriped suit. It celebrated its world premiere in the Vision Mercedes‑Maybach 6, the exclusive coupé study which thrilled connoisseurs and fans of the brand in 2016.
The two-tone exterior paint finish is also a classic Mercedes-Maybach theme. In future there will be nine different colour combinations available on request. The double clear coat is available as a further new option for all dark colours. It creates a brilliant surface finish with a piano lacquer effect and a special impression of depth. The second bodywork clear coat, including intermediate sanding, is intricately applied by hand in the Maybach Manufaktur by specially trained varnishers.
The exterior look of the top model is rounded off by a new luxury 20‑inch multi-spoke wheel. There are also three exclusive 20- inch wheels to choose from for the Mercedes-Maybach, including the wheel with a 20‑hole design familiar from the Mercedes-Maybach S‑C abriolet.
Two new exclusive colour combinations are offered in the interior: armagnac brown/black and savanna beige/black. The black Maybach Exclusive nappa leather upholstery appointments can also be ordered with a choice of copper-, gold- or platinum-coloured contrasting topstitching. Also new in the range are trim inserts in designo flowing lines Magnolia.

New Sprinter can be ordered now and is available from June Front-wheel drive extends the available options, variability reaches a new level Eight packages with new connectivity services make fleet management significantly easier Detailed improvements with a major effect on the cab as a workplace
Stuttgart/Duisburg. Legends are made by performance. Since its market launch in 1995, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has given its name to an entire vehicle class thanks to its outstanding qualities. Today the third generation of this best-selling van is celebrating its world premiere in the newly constructed Mercedes-Benz logistics centre on the Mercator island in Duisburg. It can now be ordered in Germany at a price from 19,990 euros (price excluding VAT). It will be available in the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle centres and Van ProCenters from June. The new eSprinter will enter the market in 2019. It is part of the strategy of Mercedes-Benz Vans for electrification of the commercial van fleet.
“The inland port in Duisburg stands for globality and modern logistics at the highest level. It is therefore the perfect environment in which to present the new Sprinter. The Sprinter continues to embody the traditional attributes that have made it so successful worldwide since its market launch – flexibility, robustness and economy. At the same time it impresses with unrivalled modernity, for example with its connectivity and incomparable variability. This makes it the first end-to-end system solution for commercial fleets, both for Mercedes-Benz Vans and for the entire industry,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.
Constant control over the fleet with Mercedes PRO connect services
The third Sprinter generation impresses with its progressive design plus comfort and safety features at passenger car level. At the same time it offers maximum cost-effectiveness thanks to lower total operating costs and customer-oriented features. Comprehensive internet connectivity is one of the most important new features. The new, networked services of Mercedes PRO connect combined with the likewise completely new MBUX multimedia systems (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) provide the perfect basis for all logistical and transport requirements. This begins with the complex management of a large fleet and ends with the small company fleet. Mercedes PRO connect links the fleet manager with all the vehicles and drivers in the fleet. This enables assignments to be managed online, and vehicle information such as location, fuel level or maintenance intervals to be retrieved almost in real time. Eight packages available ex factory with central fleet, vehicle, driver and location-based services will be introduced on market launch of Mercedes PRO connect. These include e.g. Vehicle Supervision, Vehicle Operations, Fleet Communication, Maintenance Management and a digital Driver's Logbook.
Even more variable, and at home in all sectors
Panel van, Tourer, pickup, chassis, bus or traction head as body types, three drive configurations, cab designs, body lengths, tonnages, load compartment heights and equipment features: these parameters alone allow a further increase in the number of possible Sprinter variants. More than 1,700 different versions can be configured as a result. This maximised modularity defines the core of the new Sprinter concept, reflecting both sector-specific requirements and different customer segments. The product range includes e.g. solutions for courier services on the last mile delivery, for goods transport over longer distances or for service technicians using their vehicle as a mobile replacement parts store. The new Sprinter can also be put to work as a camper van or bus, and for example is used as an ambulance by rescue services.
Technical highlights: Front-wheel drive and two new transmissions
The well-proven drive concept with rear and all-wheel drive is now supplemented with a new front-wheel drive system. For reasons inherent to the design, the payload of this version increases by 50 kilograms compared to rear-wheel drive. An 80 millimetre lower loading sill makes the loading/unloading of commercially used Sprinters and access/egress to and from the living and sleeping area of camper vans considerably more convenient.
The technical highlights of the new Sprinter include two newly developed transmissions for front-wheel drive. The nine-speed automatic torque converter transmission is a first in the large van segment. The gear ranges are graduated to give an optimum balance between low consumption and agile handling. Other virtues include a low noise level and outstanding ride comfort. The new 6-speed manual transmission impresses with maximum gearshift comfort and no irritating vibrations of the shift lever.
Practical interior and weights up to 5.5 tonnes
The driver's workplace is uncluttered, practical and designed to meet the relevant transport requirements. The improvements include ergonomically shaped seats, keyless start and an improved air conditioning system. A variable stowage concept ensures that everything has its place. The load compartment also scores with clever detailed solutions. Loadable wheel arches and fully usable load compartment heights in combination with front-wheel drive increase versatility. The maximum load capacity is 17 cu. m., with tonnages up to 5.5 tonnes.
Mercedes-Benz Vans also raises the Sprinter segment to a new level where safety features are concerned. The assistance systems available for the new Sprinter include e.g. a reversing camera showing its image in the rear-view mirror, a modern Parking package with a 360-degree view, a rain sensor and wiper with an integrated Wet Wiper system ensure optimum visibility even during the wiping process.

These visionaries, who hail from all over the world and specialize in different disciplines, came together for a roundtable to create a vision of the future driven by hope, inspiration and imagination, in combination with the future of mobility. Each one will lead a conversation on a provocative and impactful topic, creating a dynamic manifesto that aims to inspire rather than instruct.
#WeWonder Manifesto
Just how this future will unravel, no one knows, but fashion has a knack of surfacing pertinent questions about how we interact with one another. So how will fashion respond to this future and the future of mobility overall? How can fashion provide a platform to discuss our potential? The #WeWonder manifesto will use myriad digital channels (Instagram @MercedesBenzFashion) to communicate with the many voices of the fashion industry to explore these questions.
The future of mobility will be Connected, Autonomous, Shares & Service and Electric (CASE) wherein travelling will turn us all into passengers afforded a new freedom: time. In fashion terms, what does this mean? Commuting to work could be redefined as the moment in the morning that we get dressed, turning the car of the future into a mobile wardrobe for example. Unencumbered by the process of driving, how we use this new time has unlimited potential.
The live and unscripted roundtable discussion, an exploration and deep dive into each visionary’s personal manifesto theme was moderated by fashion writer and publisher Caroline Issa and took place in London on 7 February 2018. It is testament to Mercedes-Benz’ innovative and digital approach to the future of mobility. It confirms the authenticity of the project by creating messaging with veracity and integrity and takes on the most pressing themes with total transparency.
The visionaries individual themes and content will be released throughout 2018 through a series of global events, appearances and digital activations. Kimberly Drew will unveil her theme and the accompanying content in March 2018, followed by a panel discussion which will take place at the me Convention area during SXSW in Austin, Texas on March 10/11th.
The Visionaries*
Our seven visionaries together generated a vision of the future driven by hope, inspiration and imagination. They are seeking neither utopia nor dystopia, but rather an image of what could be humanly possible.
Carol Lim and Humberto Leon
Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have been guiding contemporary fashion trends since founding Opening Ceremony in 2002, a New York retail destination that’s evolved into a global cultural hub for fashion, entertainment and creative innovators. In 2011, Lim and Leon were appointed creative directors at French fashion house KENZO, where they have successfully revitalized the brand for a youth-centric audience. Numerous accolades have followed the pair’s commercial and creative successes, and their interpretation of the future through #WeWonder is much anticipated.
Hans Ulrich Obrist
The Swiss curator and Artistic Director of London’s Serpentine Galleries has become one of the most recognized and respected curators in the world. He brings to the #WeWonder manifesto an unfaltering curiosity together with an enviable clarity of thought (as evidenced by his pithy and insightful Instagram notes) and a passion for conversation.
Kevin Ma
Kevin Ma’s story is one of taking a passion for sneakers and streetwear and turning it into a huge global platform: Hypebeast. Ma has captured and chronicled a Zeitgeist that is no longer a subculture but forms a considerable part of the luxury fashion narrative. A true entrepreneurial maverick, Ma’s ability to see opportunity where others can’t, will make him an invaluable contributor to the manifesto.
Kimberly Drew
It’s rare that a 27-year-old makes the art world sit up and take notice but, that is exactly what New Jersey-born Kimberly Drew has done. Now very much part of New York City’s art scene, Drew’s art curation and writing is focused on dismantling the old structures of the art world and giving voice to the complicated intersection between race, tech and art.
Slick Woods
In a fashion industry where newness and difference are the currencies of the day, Slick Woods is pure gold. The gap-toothed, shaven-headed, tattoo-covered model breaks all the tenets of conventional beauty and represents a new generation of boundary-breaking free-thinkers.
Solange Knowles
Solange Knowles is an artistic force to be reckoned with. Recently a 2017 recipient of the Glamour Woman of the Year Award, Solange is more than a recording artist and known as an activist and visual art luminary. In 2013, she launched her own record label, Saint Records, and in 2016 her third studio album “A Seat At The Table” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart, Apple Music, and iTunes Overall Top Albums Charts. From performing her work for President Obama at the White House to her art performance at the Guggenheim Museum, Solange has invoked themes of identity, empowerment, grief and healing that have resonated with millions of voices that routinely feel silenced or overlooked. In addition, her performance art show at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, as well as her art installation at London’s Tate Modern museum have all led to a defining career of visual art and activism.
*The visionaries were dressed by creative design talents including Gesine Forsterling, Jan Cerny, Nobi Talai and William Fan as part of the Mercedes-Benz International Designer Exchange Program (IDEP), which connects creative talents with a truly international audience and provides all the support necessary for these individuals to take the next big step in their careers.
“Following the great success of the Mercedes-Benz fashion story launch last year, we are focusing on expanding the #mbcollective and will now shift the focus to digital content creation for our Global Fashion Engagement in 2018. Through the #WeWonder manifesto and together with our exceptional visionaries, we invite our audiences to explore and join the conversation about the future. The visionaries’ diverse backgrounds, professions and experiences will no doubt inspire exciting discussions, highlighting their chosen themes in an authentic, inclusive and engaging way, which is future driven. Mercedes-Benz will continue to support the designers of our International Designer Exchange Program (IDEP), whose clothes will be worn by the visionaries” says Michael Bock, Director Sport and Lifestyle Marketing at Mercedes-Benz.
