Inside Look on Velodyne Products and Their Applications

Inside Look on Velodyne Products and Their ApplicationsJune 18, 2019|In Media Coverage|By Albie Jarvis

Lidar technology is fundamental to vehicle autonomy,
safety, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

David E. Zoia, Editorial Director at WardsAuto, wrote
about Velodyne’s latest lidar
products and their applications
in the Wards Intelligence story “Velodyne
Says Nearing Mass Production of Forward-Facing Lidar.”

In looking at Velodyne and its lidar products, Zoia
wrote, how the company “continues advancing the technology even as it keeps an
eye on the rest of the field in its rearview mirror.”

Zoia spoke with Marta Thoma Hall, President & CBDO of
Velodyne Lidar, who reviewed the state of lidar technology, mass production of
Velodyne sensors, lidar’s role in improving vehicle safety and more.

In discussing safety, Hall noted, “What we want to do
with our ADAS system is to cut down on 90% of accidents, which are caused by
front-facing accidents. This will actually save lives. This will not be a
comfort or convenience feature. We plan for it to be a safety system.”

Keep an eye on how lidar addresses the stringent safety requirements for vehicle autonomy and ADAS. To read the complete story, please go to (subscription required): https://subscribers.wardsintelligence.com/technology/velodyne-says-nearing-mass-production-forward-facing-lidar

Light, sporty, and smart—MAHLE expands its range of components for e-bikes

Stuttgart/Germany, June 18, 2019 – Following its acquisition of ebikemotion® Technologies SL (now MAHLE Ebikemotion S.L.U.) last year, MAHLE is continuously expanding its range of drive motors, electronic control units, batteries, and interactive components. One feature that sets the MAHLE drive system apart is its highly compact design. The sophisticated components fit completely into the bike’s frame and hub. As a result, it is not immediately identifiable as an e-bike. An intelligent user interface also gives the cyclist information on the cruising range, route, weather, and fitness data.

The compact design of the MAHLE drive system gives manufacturers unprecedented design freedom. The style is particularly attractive for racing bikes, gravel bikes, and city bikes. MAHLE also offers suitable mid-drive motors for mountain bikes and other high-performance e-bikes.
“With our innovative drive systems for light, high-performance bikes, and by expanding our product portfolio for smart bikes with a focus on connectivity, MAHLE is taking another major step toward the zero-emissions urban mobility of tomorrow,” says Thomas Kohlbauer, Vice President Mechatronics division at MAHLE.
Thanks to MAHLE’s connective components, a wealth of new applications for the Internet of Things (IoT) are being developed for end customers and bicycle manufacturers. With social media, theft prevention, and sharing concepts, for example, MAHLE components are opening up new markets for manufacturers and offering the possibility of a completely new product and cycling experience.
Well-known manufacturers such as Orbea, Colnago, Pinarello, and Bianchi have already opted for MAHLE’s drive system. MAHLE’s versatile systems competence and agile project teams played an important role in this decision. MAHLE aims to continuously expand and strengthen its position in the smart bikes segment.
