Agents of change 'Shine Bright'

At the launch of author Rashmi Bansal's tenth book, Shine Bright, (L-R) Kirti Poonia, Head at Okhai, Vineet Gautam, CEO, Bestseller India, Dr Pawan Goenka, MD, M&M, Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, Chairman, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), and R Mukundan, MD and CEO, Tata Chemicals.

Is being an entrepreneur the only way to bring about an impact? What if you could do things that entrepreneurs do, but within the structure of an organization? Shine Bright, the latest book by best-selling author Rashmi Bansal chronicles inspiring stories from CEOs, including Dr Pawan Goenka, MD, M&M. The book takes us on a ride, up close and personal which is equal parts arduous and fulfilling. Tracing his tryst with destiny that began in a small village on the outskirts of MP and took him to Kolkata, Kanpur, and then the US, Dr Goenka speaks from the heart in 'Shine Bright', and drives home the fact that if one is not stuck' to the job, they too can be an agent of change.

Sharing anecdotes from his job interview with Anand Mahindra back in 1992, Dr Goenka, said, 'Looking at my resume at that time nobody would have considered me fit for the job that I was hired for because I knew all about a job that nobody cared about. Whereas in this job I had to do something much broader than what I had ever done in my life. Anand Mahindra only said – If you believe in the dream, and if it challenges you come and join the team. There was no discussion about the role, the designation or to whom I would report. Anand’s vision for R&D clinched the deal and I signed on the dotted line.'

Under Pawan Goenka's able leadership, Mahindra Auto now competes with global giants – and outperforms them. From taking charge of the R&D facility in Nashik to developing the iconic Scorpio from scratch, the professional struggle, personal turmoil and resilience through the years, shaped Dr Goenka into an ‘intrapreneur'.

Moon Walks, Woodstock and the Ford Capri; Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of an Iconic Sports Car

It was the year man walked on the moon for the first time, the legendary Woodstock festival took place and the very first Boeing 747s reached for the skies. In that same year, half a century ago, Ford’s Capri hit Europe’s roads for the first time.

When it launched in 1969, it was billed as “the car you always promised yourself” and more than 1.8 million people would make good on that promise. The demand saw Ford’s Cologne plant in Germany produce Capris for the next 17 years, through three generations, until 1986. Since then countless drivers have continued to own, drive and enjoy one of Europe’s most recognisable sports cars.

A new video to mark the model’s 50th birthday takes a rare RS2600 Capri on a nostalgic trip; from its birthplace to the forests of the nearby Eifel mountains – where extensive testing occurred before launch – and then on..

New digital services from Mercedes PRO connect: En route towards a more efficient and sustainable fleet

12.

August 2019

Stuttgart

Stuttgart. Coordinating urgent online orders or vehicle information such as location, fuel level or any upcoming maintenance work is all conveniently possible from your desk or your smartphone. And those are just a few examples of what Mercedes PRO connect can do for you. Offered for fleets, this business-oriented connectivity and fleet solution optimises communication between fleet managers, vehicles and drivers. The products from Mercedes PRO connect can be put together individually and are offered in nine packages. From now on, the “Efficient Driving Style Analysis” package will also include a so-called “Drive Style Monitor”. Meanwhile, the already familiar “Eco Monitor” now has improved graphics and functionality. Both services are available for a fee at www.mercedes.pro and provide meaningful data with which the driving behaviour – for example in terms of wear and energy or fuel consumption – can be improved.
“With the updated range of services on offer, our customers now have more services available to them which will assist them in reducing their operating costs. Fleet managers, for example, can see at the push of a button how much fuel or energy their fleet is consuming and know whether or not their vans are being driven in an anticipatory fashion. Accordingly, energy or fuel consumption can be reduced, the risk of an accident can be minimised and vehicle downtimes can also be avoided. In all, it sharpens awareness concerning resource-friendly driving,” explains Bjoern Sack, Head of Connectivity and Digital Services at Mercedes-Benz Vans.
Being mindful of resources and having an anticipatory driving style
The Drive Style Monitor records the average fuel consumption as well as pulling away and acceleration characteristics, coasting behaviour and whether drivers have a consistent driving style. With the help of this driving style data, you can motivate your drivers to adopt an anticipatory driving style and subsequently optimise this by means of training courses. Fleet managers benefit from less vehicle downtime, reduced repair costs, less wear and tear on the vehicle and possibly even lower insurance premiums.
The Eco Monitor service provides users with consumption-relevant data on the vehicle fleet. The service makes available information on average fuel consumption and provides details on how much fuel could be saved by adopting a more conscious driving style. Possible “bonus kilometres” can also be shown. These are based on a careful driving manner. Also, tyre pressure and battery warnings are displayed in the Vehicle Management Tool. All of this information can be called up for an entire vehicle fleet, group or also a single vehicle.
Customer-specifically tailored digital services
Mercedes PRO is the digital services brand of Mercedes-Benz Vans. Under this brand, the Vans division bundles existing and future commercial service offers in a single digital platform. In addition to a consultation at a dealership, a product advisor is available free of charge at www.mercedes.pro to help Mercedes-Benz Vans commercial customers select the digital services best-suited to their fleet and business. For this, the following parameters in particular are taken into account: the business sector, size of fleet, yearly mileage and the dynamics of the route planning. Mercedes PRO connect was introduced in June 2018 in line with the market launch of the new Sprinter. Besides being available in this large van, the services are now also accessible for the Vito and eVito manufactured as of May 2019 and March 2019 respectively.
