UK develops drone highway

Great Britain wants to establish a “drone highway” called “Sykway”.

The British government recently announced the construction of a drone route. It will be the longest of its kind and revolutionize logistics and delivery workers.

The route is said to cover 164 miles, i.e. around 264 kilometres, and cities such as Reading, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, coventry and rugby extend. The drone highway should be completed within two years. The cooperation partners include UTM, Altitude Angel, BT, EE and start-ups in the country.

The route will have a control and communication system that will drones can communicate with each other. The drone operators would only have to worry about their navigation. Powerful sensors are to be used along the route. These support the aircraft in navigation. This relief for the sensors is intended to increase the delivery capacity and range.

The money for this comes from a £273 million pot for the UK aerospace sector. This also finances solar airplanes and air taxis.
