One of Detroit’s top parties returns Sept. 16, as the Ford AutoGlow — a tradition for decades — welcomes patrons of the North American International Auto Show’s charity preview to Ford Field.
The Afterglow actually begins before the Charity Preview, with valet parking at Ford Field, pre-event drinks and hors d’oeuvres followed by private shuttles to the Preview — and all the new vehicles on display — at the riverfront Huntington Place convention center. The Charity Preview raises millions of dollars for southeast Michigan children’s charities.

Ford executive chair Bill Ford and his wife, Lisa, and Ford CEO Jim Farley and his wife, Lia, host the AutoGlow, which has raised nearly $6 million for The Children’s Center.
The AutoGlow takes over much of Ford Field — but not the playing field — for an after-party with dancing, music and high-end small plates courtesy of Levy Restaurants, which runs food service at Ford Field.
Anyone who attends the Charity Preview can also buy a ticket to the AutoGlow, but you can count on a house packed with Ford Motor leadership and friends, including members of the company’s founding family, which has supported the Children’s Center for generations. The Children’s Center provides assistance to 3,500 children and their families each year.
Do a little dance, make a little art
Regular attendees say it’s also a good place for anybody new to southeast Michigan who wants a rundown on the region’s movers and shakers.
This year’s schedule includes music by DJ Pervu, dancing, “an opportunity to create an original piece of artwork alongside Detroit artist Trae IsAAc.”
AutoGlow runs from 4:30 p.m. to midnight with pre-event reception 4:30-7 p.m. and the main party 8:30-midnight. The dress code is black tie.
AutoGlow tickets cost $275 until Aug. 31, when they rise to $325. https://www.thechildrenscenter.com/autoglow-2022/
