The month of July 2022 saw a range of cars as well as bikes being launched in the Indian market across different segments, including TVS Ronin, BMW G 310 RR, Citroen C3, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and so on. Similarly, the month of August is also expected to be big on car and motorcycle launches, with a range of new offerings already lined up.
Here is a list of all cars and bikes that are set to be make their debut in the country this month, i.e. August 2022 in order of their respective launch dates –
Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai is finally set to reveal the prices of the new-gen Tucson in the Indian market on August 4. Upon arrival, the Tucson will become the first Hyundai car in India to be offered with ADAS functionality. The Jeep Compass, Volkswagen Tiguan and Citroen C5 Aircross rivaling SUV will be significantly larger than the previous-gen model.
Powering the 2022 Tucson are 2.0-litre diesel and 2.0-litre nat-asp petrol engines. The former puts out 186 PS of power and 417 Nm of torque, while the petrol engine is rated at 156 PS/192 Nm. The diesel engine is offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard, while the petrol mill gets a 6-speed AT only. Hyundai is also offering the Tucson with its HTRAC all-wheel drive drivetrain.
Royal Enfield has confirmed that it will be launching a new motorcycle in India on August 7, with a teaser video revealed on its social media handles. While it has not been confirmed so far, the new motorcycle will likely be the highly-anticipated Hunter 350, which could go on to become the most affordable Royal Enfield bike based on the new J platform.
The roadster-styled motorcycle will get blacked-out engine components, a single-seat setup, round headlamp and tail light, black alloy wheels, optional spoked rims, and a single pod instrument cluster. RE’s Tripper navigation will likely be an optional extra.
Honda BigWing motorcycle
Honda sent out a block-your-date invitation for 8th August about two weeks ago. While the company did not reveal what product it is going to launch, it did confirm that the new motorcycle will be a premium offering that will be retailed through its BigWing dealership network.
The invite carried the tagline “The Formidable Coming Soon”, but with no other details. Speculations suggest that it could be a new iteration based on the same platform as the CB350 and CB350RS. We expect it to be either a cruiser motorcycle to take on the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, or an adventure tourer.
Toyota is all set to mark its entry into the ever-growing mid-size SUV segment in India with the price reveal of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder that made debut in the country on July 1. The car shares its underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, which will go on sale in September, while the Urban Cruiser Hyryder’s launch takes place on August 16.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is being offered with two different naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engines with hybrid tech. The NeoDrive variants are equipped with a Maruti sourced 1.5-litre engine with mild-hybrid tech, rated at 102 PS/135 Nm. This engine is available with a 5-speed MT, as well as an optional 6-speed AT. The manual version can also be had with an all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration. Then there is the 1.5-litre 3-pot petrol engine with strong hybrid tech that makes use of an AC synchronous motor. The total system output is rated at 116 PS, and power is fed to the front wheels through a single-speed e-CVT gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki Alto
Maruti Suzuki recently sent out a block-your-date invitation for August 18 on behalf of Maruti Suzuki Arena. Since the Grand Vitara will be retailed through the premium Nexa dealerships, the new Arena car will likely be the 2022 new-gen Alto considering the fact that Maruti Suzuki has no other car lined up for an immediate release and the new Alto has already been seen in spy shots.
As per the spy shots, the new-gen Alto will grow in size, especially in the height department. The 2022 version of the car also gets a redesigned rear-end with new tail lamps that look similar to the ones seen on the Celerio. Powering the Alto will quite likely be the same 796 cc petrol engine with some optimisation and calibration upgrades. The Alto K10 moniker could also be re-introduced with the new 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that performs duties on the recently launched 2022 S-Presso.
Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+
Mercedes-Benz India recently confirmed the launch of the EQS electric sedan in the country will take place on August 24. The performance-oriented EQS 53 4MATIC+ variant will be making its debut first, which could be followed by the launch of the standard EQS. The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ will be brought to the country through the CBU route initially, followed by the commencement of local assembly later for EQS 450+ and EQS 580 4MATIC.
The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ uses two electric motors- one on each axle, which lends it the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The flagship electric sedan has a maximum power output of 658 PS, with a 950 Nm peak torque rating. The EQS 53 4MATIC+ can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, with the top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h.
