Ex-Opel-Chef Lohscheller

Der frühere Opel-Chef Michael Lohscheller steigt bereits nach wenigen Monaten an die Spitze des US-Truckbauers Nikola auf. Der bisherige Chef der Motor-Sparte soll zum Jahreswechsel die Konzernleitung von seinem Vorgänger Mark Russell übernehmen, wie das Unternehmen am Mittwoch am Hauptsitz Phoenix in Arizona mitteilte. Der 53 Jahre alte Lohscheller hatte erst im Februar bei den US-Amerikanern angeheuert, die als Tesla-Konkurrent im großen Stil Lastwagen mit Elektro-Antrieb auf den Markt bringen wollen.
Lohschellers wichtigste Aufgabe bleibt der Hochlauf der Serienproduktion. Laut eigener Mitteilung hat Nikola im zweiten Quartal des Jahres 48 Batterie-Lastwagen ausgeliefert, wobei es Lieferschwierigkeiten beim Batterie-Zulieferer Romeo Power gegeben hat, der vor wenigen Tagen von Nikola übernommen wurde. Bislang hat Nikola ausschließlich Verluste eingefahren, verfügt aber nach eigener Einschätzung über ausreichende Mittel.

The company, founded in 2015, relies entirely on electric commercial vehicles that are powered by batteries and, in the future, by fuel cells. In addition to the factory in Arizona, a truck production facility is to be set up in Ulm together with Iveco. Due to misleading statements, the listed company had meanwhile been targeted by the US Securities and Exchange Commission and had to accept significant price falls after allegations of fraud against founder Trevor Milton.

Lohscheller has global experience in the automotive business and was, among other things, VW CFO in the USA. Since 2017, as CEO, he had reorganized the car manufacturer Opel in the new parent company PSA, which in turn was merged with Fiat Chrysler in the new Stellantis group at the beginning of 2021. An engagement as head of Vietnam’s first automaker, Vinfast, remained a short episode in 2021 at just four months.
