After a weak year so far, the VW Group was able to sell almost as many cars in July as it did a year ago. With 725,400 units, Volkswagen delivered around 200 fewer vehicles worldwide than a year earlier, as the group announced on Friday.
This was thanks to a strong increase of 21.7 percent in China, the most important market for Wolfsburg. In the People’s Republic, the car market is currently gaining momentum after the corona lockdowns in spring and the lack of semiconductors. In Western Europe, sales were still 11.3 percent below the previous year’s figure.
In the first seven months, the VW Group delivered 4.6 million vehicles to customers, which is a good 19 percent fewer.
VW has set itself the goal of increasing deliveries by 5 to 10 percent over the previous year. Better availability of the electronic chips, which have been in short supply for a long time, should help in the second half of the year.
