Accident with autonomous vehicle near Reutlingen?

An autonomous car is said to have been involved in an accident on Monday. One person died and several were injured.

It was surprising news following the fatal accident of a Uber robot car 2018 in Arizona. At that time, a test car ran over a woman crossing the street. It turned out that the woman behind the wheel neglected to monitor the vehicle.

After the accident on the B28 in the Reutlingen district, the police spoke of an autonomous test vehicle with an electric drive that was involved in the accident. The question in the room was who was driving the vehicle: man or machine. The vehicle went off track on a bend and struck oncoming traffic. A total of three vehicles were involved in the accident.

Now the manufacturer of the supposed test car explained, bmwthat the car involved in the accident was not an autonomous vehicle. It was just a tier 2 vehicle that required the human to be in control of the vehicle at all times. These systems are already installed in series.

However, the reports do not currently indicate whether it was a test car at all. The BMW in question had five people on board.
