ID Digest: Tokopedia launches subscription-based priority delivery; Traveloka quits e-grocery

Tokopedia has launched a new subscription package that allows its users to enjoy free shipping and other perks. Meanwhile, Traveloka has quit the e-grocery sector in just a few months of its foray.

PLUS by GoTo

Indonesian e-commerce giant Tokopedia, part of the GoTo Group, has announced a subscription plan that offers unlimited free priority shipping for its Java-based users.

Named ‘PLUS by GoTo’, the service promises users unlimited free shipping, faster order processing time, priority services and other benefits from GoTo’s strategic partners, such as Halodoc and Vidio.

“PLUS by GoTo is a prime example of how we can unlock synergies across our ecosystem to offer more value for customers,” Anthony Wijaya, the head of marketplace of GoTo Group, said in a statement.

Users can pay a subscription package fee — starting at 150,000 rupiah ($10) for six months — during the promotion period.

Gabriella Kawilarang, the head of product at Tokopedia, said PLUS by GoTo will be gradually introduced to more parts of the GoTo ecosystem and will be expanded to more regions.

Quits e-groceries

Indonesian unicorn Traveloka has quit the e-grocery market after just six months as part of a change in the company’s business strategy and priority, according to a statement, likely due to fierce competition in the sector.

The online travel agent announced the closure of its Traveloka Mart service this week, saying the company will coordinate with partners during the process.

“During the service termination process, the employees, partners and users continue to become our main focus to ensure a transition adheres to the regulation,” Traveloka said in the statement.

Traveloka’s effort to diversify its business amid the pandemic gained interest from several grocery stores and supermarkets in Greater Jakarta, including the Indonesian subsidiary of South Korea’s Lotte Mart.
