A theft of trade secrets at Apple seems to have been solved. The other is still being negotiated.
Also Apple probably wants to build an autonomous car and is doing research on it. However, Project Titan, as the project was previously called, had to deal with two thefts of trade secrets. One happened in 2018, you throw that Xiaolang Zhang before. The other incident happened in 2019 and will Jizhong Chen accused.
What both have in common is that they took secret information about the development of autonomous driving and wanted to pass it on in China. Zhang had the data for the printed circuit boards on his laptop and wanted to take a last-minute flight to China with them. He also stated that he was at the startup Xpeng want to hire, who is also working on autonomous driving. The police arrested him at the airport before he could board the plane to China.
Xpeng aka Xiaopeng Motors of China has denied any involvement in the case. This is how Uber acted in the case at the time Anthony Levandowski and as we now know, that was feigned. At that time it was about a lidar trade secret Waymo, which Lewandowski stole and defected to Über. The court agreement cost Over $235 million.
Zhang initially pleaded not guilty, as did Levandowski at the time. He has since pleaded guilty. Thus a deal was created. The announcement of this is scheduled for November.
The other case of Jizhong Chen, also charged with stealing trade secrets, will be heard on August 29.
