CHANDIGARH: Laying all the speculations about Maruti Suzuki and its car production business in Haryana to rest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Sunday lay the foundation stone of the company’s third plant, at Kharkhoda.
Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Saturday that Maruti Suzuki will invest more than Rs 20,000 crore in this new plant, giving a boost to Haryana’s industrial sector.
For seven years, the opposition parties, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surewala especially, has been accusing the state’s BJP government of forcing the company to take its new project to Gujarat.
Modi will lay the factory’s foundation stone virtually and the actual site is at Kharkhoda’s Industrial Model Township (IMT) in Sonipat.
Besides Khattar, deputy CM Dushyant Chautala, various central ministers, and several MPs will be present at the event. Khattar said: “Today, Haryana has become a major automobile manufacturing hub of the country, since about 50% of the Indian cars are being made in Haryana. The state government supports the industry, which has encouraged Maruti to increase its investment.”
This May, thge state had signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding) with Maruti Suzuki and Suzuki Motorcycle India for the allotment of land worth Rs 2,400 crore at the IMT. The MSIL will take up 800 acres and Sukuki Motorcycle 100 acres.
