The e-car pioneer Tesla wants to win the race for autonomous driving with the AI Dojo.
Tesla came under lately because of its assistance system Autopilot FSD Print. There were deaths and there areinvestigations, the end of which remains to be seen. The question of whether Tesla will really make it to autonomous driving is inevitable. Tesla uses Autopilot for its system, which is currently level 2 reached, no lidar sensor, but relies on the cheap cameras and its AI.
Dojo is the name of Tesla’s artificial intelligence. According to the company’s plan, they want to assert themselves against the competition. As soon as it was introduced, people boasted that it was the next step in autonomous driving. The AI should evaluate videos collected by the Teslas to train how to drive a car. These findings then flow into the decision-making processes when driving.
The Dojo-based FSD is in beta and still being tested. The AI runs on Tesla’s D1 chip. These form a grid of training units in groups of 25 chips. The data is moved to it and its own software controls it. The processors at Tesla come from Nvidia. The transition is still ongoing. More information about the system is scheduled to be presented at the AI Day event on September 30th.
Whether the AI system Dojo will keep all the promises of autonomous driving that Tesla has made remains to be seen. Tesla certainly dared to do a lot of new things with Elon Musk, but it also broke a lot of promises – especially in the area of autonomous driving.
