New Delhi: Automobile wholesales in August 2022 reported a growth of 17.7% to 1,877,072 units with year-on-year sales in the green across the segments. In August 2021, the industry recorded total wholesales of 1,594,573 units. Total domestic wholesales for the month include passenger vehicles, two wheelers, three wheelers and quadricycles.
Passenger vehicle wholesales were up 21% to 281,210 units in August 2022 as against 232,224 units in same month of last year.
Total two-wheeler wholesales increased to 15,57,429 units last month, compared to 13,38,740 units in the year-ago period, a growth of 16%.
Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said, “In August 2022, sales in the passenger vehicle segment stood at 2.8 lakh units. Two-wheelers posted sales of 15.6 lakh units, while the three-wheeler segment posted sales of just 38,000 units. A good monsoon and the upcoming festive season is likely to increase demand and SIAM is keeping a close watch on the dynamic supply-side challenges.”
“High CNG prices is a big challenge for the industry and we keenly look forward to the kind interventions and support from the Government,” he said.
According to the industry body, the total production of passenger vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycles in August 2022 was at 2,275,407 units.
In the April-August 2022 period, total vehicle production stood at 10,542,675 units.
