Tata Motors is all set to unveil its Tata Tiago EV on 28th September in Mumbai.
The pricing of the vehicle is expected to be under 10 lakhs as it shares its specs with the Tigor eXPres-T variant targeted at fleet operators and which produces 41hp and 105Nm of torque and is powered by a 21.5kWh battery pack offering 213km of the claimed range.
This battery pack can be charged via a 15kW DC fast charger in a claimed 1 hour and 50 minutes. At Rs 9.75 lakh (ex-showroom), the Xpress-T EV electric sedan is the most affordable in Tata Motors’ EV stable
The media unveil will also be followed by a walk around on the 29th where the vehicle will be shown to select audiences at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention.
The Tiago EV will sit below the Tigor EV in the brand’s electrified line-up, will be similar in design to the facelifted ICE model, and will have EV-specific cues. It will be the third EV offering from Tata which also includes the Nexon EV.
Tata Motors had earlier shared a three-phase approach towards building a comprehensive EV portfolio. “As a leader, we are now pioneering the next phase of the EV market expansion, which will bring all the EV benefits of an exciting yet easy drive, silent cabin, low cost of ownership to a more accessible level,” said Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility
The automaker has confirmed plans to introduce 10 EVs with Altroz EV next waiting in the pipeline to be launched around the Rs 15 lakh price range. The Tata Altroz EV will be modeled on the Nexon EV Prime which has a 30.2 kW battery and has a range of 312 km.
With the acquisition of the Ford’s Sanand plant, Tata Motors will rejig its manufacturing plant layouts to take benefit of the additional three lakh units it can add to its production plans.
Tata Motors plans to garner sales of 50,000 EVs in the current fiscal eyeing high-intensity launches to maintain its leadership position in the EV passenger car market. The strategic plan at Tata Motors is to add new products to its EV basket.
The company currently has an 88 percent share of the electric passenger vehicle market and will now face competition from the Mahindra XUV400 EV and its upcoming BE range. Earlier this year, Tata unveiled the Curvv SUV and Avinya concepts which will be productionised by 2024. MG Motor India is also looking to launch a more affordable EV in 2023 that could be priced in the Rs 15 lakh bracket.
