XPeng: City Navigation Guided Pilot launched

The Chinese manufacturer XPeng has started its assistance system as a pilot program. It’s called City Navigation Guided Pilot (City NGP).

The company XPeng wants Tesla challenge. These are electric cars that have a modern assistance system. This system, called City Navigation Guided Pilot (City NGP), is designed to make driving in urban situations easier.

XPeng has also gained notoriety for being linked to trade secret theft. People who worked at Apple are said to have left Apple with secret data on autonomous driving. One of the two has meanwhile confessed. XPeng denies that the data was taken. Tesla had one too such case.

City NGP will initially be offered for a fleet of XPeng P5 electric sedans in the Guangzhou area and will be available to customers via over-the-air (OTA) updates. The program will be rolled out in other cities later. According to XPeng, this is the start of the roadmap to cover everything from highways to parking lots and urban areas.

Similar to Tesla, the company wants to continuously develop further and thus increase the driving experience. You then set a destination and the vehicle drives the person there. It takes care of the navigation, changing lanes and overtaking. Also recognizing traffic lights and a corresponding reaction should succeed with the NGP, as well as driving on crossings, roundabouts, viaducts and tunnels. In addition, construction sites should be passed, pedestrian and bicycle traffic should be observed.

The sensor equipment of the 360-degree fusion perception includes cameras, lidar, radar and precise positioning. The environment is shown with a Surrounding Reality (SR) display that combines and displays the sensor data with an HD map in real time.

The system, which is part of the 3.5 system in the XPeng P5, has to be run in over 100 kilometers before the functions are ready. This is to give the system sufficient knowledge of security procedures. Next, the G9 SUV model will receive the NPG system.
