European charging station manufacturer Zaptec has added Plug and Charge functionality to its Zaptec Pro Level 2 chargers. Plug and Charge allows EV drivers to simply plug in and walk away—the vehicle communicates with the charger, and automatically initiates the authentication and payment process.
The Zaptec Pro has been hardware-ready for the past two years, and the new software package will enable the majority of Zaptec Pro systems to quickly update to Plug and Charge.
The Zaptec Pro is also compatible with the ISO 15118 standard, which enables bidirectional charging.
“The introduction of Plug and Charge is revolutionizing the EV ownership experience,” said Guy Haydon, Managing Director at Zaptec UK. “Long gone are the hassle and headache of apps and payment information for every new charger you come across. The best part is that all Zaptec Pro units installed since 2020 are already compatible with Plug and Charge. We are looking forward to making it available to our customers across the UK.”
