The FDP no longer wants politicians from Lower Saxony on the supervisory board of the automotive group VW. “I advocate that neither the Prime Minister of Lower Saxony nor a minister should be a member of the VW supervisory board,” said the FDP’s top candidate for the Lower Saxony state elections, Stefan Birkner, in an interview with the Reuters news agency published on Friday.
The shares and interests of the country would have to be represented by proxies. “Otherwise there can always be conflicts of interest, such as in the diesel affair.” As a co-owner, the state of Lower Saxony has two supervisory mandates at VW, which are currently occupied by Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) and Economics Minister Bernd Althusmann (CDU).
