Driven by strong demand for electric cars, the carmaker BMW wants to sell more cars again in the coming year. After the Munich-based company expects a slight setback in car deliveries for the current year due to problems with supply chains, with semiconductors and as a result of the Ukraine war, things should go up again slightly in 2023, said CFO Nicolas Peter in a video conference on Monday journalists. At BMW, “light” means an increase of one to five percent.
Above all, sales of electronics should continue to grow rapidly. Thanks to a very good order situation, Peter can imagine sales of fully electric cars with pure battery drives increasing to 400,000 vehicles in the coming year. In the current year, the carmaker expects more than a doubling to 240,000 to 245,000 battery cars sold.
BMW remains optimistic about the recent price development, which has been so advantageous for car manufacturers. In the three largest leasing markets, the USA, Great Britain and Germany, there is currently no sign of slowing down, said Peter. BMW also benefits from the residual values โโof leasing returns from high used car prices, which make resale on the market more profitable.
Meanwhile, the Munich-based company sees itself well on the way to the goal of saving 15 percent gas in the German and Austrian plants this winter. Peter also saw some room for improvement here.
