US infrastructure and real estate investment firm Stonepeak has made a strategic investment in Sinagpore-headquartered Equalbase, an integrated development and management platform focused on the logistics sector across Asia Pacific.
Through the investment, Euqalbase will develop high-quality logistics projects throughout Asia Pacific, with an initial focus on South Korea and Malaysia, both fast growing logistics markets where Equalbase has an existing operating presence.
“We believe the Asia Pacific region presents significant opportunities for investment in Grade A modern logistics assets as the market continues to exhibit favorable supply-demand dynamics and sustained structural tailwinds,” said Stonepeak’s senior managing director and head of Asia and the Middle East, Hajir Naghdy, adding that the firm will continue to identify additional compelling infrastructure assets and platforms across the region.
Prior to Equalbase, Stonepeak has invested in Singapore-based data centre platform Digital Edge, GreenPeak Renewables and Swancor Renewable Energy in Taiwan, Japanese renewable asset platform Peak Energy Investments, and Seapeak, a global marine platform with operations in Southeast Asia, according to the investment firm’s website.
“Customers in Asia continue to face limited choices for specialist logistics developers and managers that can reliably serve their expanding logistics needs at scale, which we believe creates compelling opportunities for continued industry growth,” said Stonepeak managing director Michael Chan.
Equalbase’s team is grounded in three key areas including development and management service, fund management, and building engineering science and innovation for industrial and commercial assets. The company has developed and managed seven warehouses and logistics facilities in Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea.
US-based Stonepeak said it had $51.7 billion of assets under management. The firm sponsors investment vehicles focused on private equity and credit. It targets sectors including communications, energy transition, transport and logistics, and social infrastructure.
Stonepeak is headquartered in New York with offices in Austin, Hong Kong, Houston, London and Sydney.
