Blink’s new Mini Pan Tilt adds robotics to its compact home security camera

/

The literally named panning and tilting accessory can upgrade your current Mini for $30, or you can buy a camera / mount bundle for $60. Oh, and Blink has a new wired floodlight camera as well.

The scene is a wooden kitchen counter with a flower pot offset to the right, and in the center is the Blink Mini cam, which is a blocky black and white device. It’s mounted on a white bullet-shaped body that makes it look like a Pixar-style robot device. There’s a cable running out the back.

Blink’s giving its blocky Mini security camera a new robot body. The new Mini Pan Tilt is a very literally named mounting accessory that converts your existing Blink Mini camera from a stationary device into a controllable camera that lets you look around the room.

Setup sounds like it’ll be easy for the Pan Tilt: you connect the Mini camera to the mount, plug in the Micro USB cord, and the camera now has 360-degree movement from the Blink app. You can even install it on a tripod or wall mount that Blink sells separately — or you can just place it on a table.

You can preorder the Mini Pan Tilt mount today on Amazon for $29.99. There’s also a bundle that gets you the mount as well as a Blink Mini camera if you don’t have one already for $59.99.

Alongside the new mount, Blink is also coming out with a new outdoor camera that uses Amazon’s AZ2 chip for local video processing that doesn’t need to send footage to the cloud. The Blink Wired Floodlight Camera streams 1080p footage and has LED lights that can get as bright as 2,600 lumens. If you want to keep all footage local, you’ll need an additional Sync Module 2 and a USB flash drive to store it on.

This marks the first time Blink has released a completely wired version of the floodlight camera; its other model uses a battery-powered Blink camera mounted to a floodlight body. The new floodlight camera will be available in the coming months for $99.99.

The Pan Tilt, in particular, is a welcome add-on for the 2020 Mini camera and hopefully a sign the hardware will be supported longer than the now-discontinued Amazon Cloud Cam the Blink Mini replaced. But with Amazon owning both Blink and Ring and the two companies selling largely redundant products, it’s tough to say what Amazon’s next move will be. Ring also has a wired floodlight camera and just released two new spotlight cameras as well.
