PANAJI: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) will soon introduce two hydraulic vehicles to lift poorly parked two-wheelers in the city and penalise the owners for wrongful parking. The mechanism unloads and loads bikes gently reducing chances of damage to bikes, besides saving manpower.

Until now, the vehicles were being manually loaded into trucks wherein CCP workers would confiscate the vehicle after hauling it into a tow truck. “This is the very first time that we are introducing hydraulic vehicle lifting trucks,” said CCP commissioner Agnelo Fernandes. The total cost of the two vehicles is Rs 51,84,000.

Haphazard and illegal parking in the state capital is a daily sight with two-wheelers and four-wheelers wrongfully parking in ‘No parking’ spaces or indulging in double parking. Faster and smoother confiscation of vehicles is possible with the introduction of the hydraulic vehicle which also acts as a forklift.

“When high-end bikes are lifted, CCP workers struggle with the weight. Also, there are chances of leaving a scratch. With the help of the canvas strap on the hydraulic vehicle lifting truck, the bike is lifted in a balanced manner,” Fernandes said.

The vehicles will mainly operate during the daytime to confiscate erring two-wheelers within the jurisdiction of Panaji. The vehicle requires only one operator and one driver, thus eliminating the need for several hands.
