People Digest: SC Capital Partners, K&L Gates, Pictet announce key hires

Asset manager SC Capital Partners has strengthened its team with four key appointments; global law firm K&L Gates LLP has appointed Iris Leung as a corporate/capital markets partner in its Hong Kong office; while Geneva-based private bank Pictet will appoint Victor Aerni as CEO of its wealth management business in Asia.

SC Capital Partners announces four senior hires

Singapore-based SC Capital Partners has strengthened its team with four key appointments.

The asset manager has appointed Man Yik Chiu as managing director and head of Asset Management for its Real Estate Capital Asia Partners (RECAP) series of opportunistic funds; June Kim Kyoung Joon as executive director for its Japan Hospitality Fund (JHF); Justin Cham as investment director and Jester Perez as research director. 

Based in Hong Kong, Chiu will focus on managing RECAP investments across the Asia-Pacific region. He joins from CapitaLand Investment Management where he was responsible for overseeing all assets in the value-add fund.

Based in Tokyo, June Kim will focus on acquisition, value enhancement and realisation activities for JHF. Kim was previously with EGW Asset Management as a director of asset management of hotels for five years.

Cham, meanwhile, will be involved in various acquisitions, asset management, value enhancement and realisation activities of the firm. Prior to joining the firm, he spent over six years with Keppel Capital and Keppel DC REIT, where he last held the post of head of investments, global.

Perez will oversee internal research across SC Capital Partners’s strategies, covering the Asia Pacific market. Perez joins from Lendlease, where he worked for 10 years, overseeing research in Asia.

Both Cham and Perez will be based in Singapore.

K&L Gates names Hong Kong capital markets partner

Global law firm K&L Gates has appointed Iris Leung as a corporate/capital markets partner in Hong Kong.

Both US- and Hong Kong-qualified Leung has advised issuers and underwriters on a significant number of landmark listings of Chinese and multinational companies on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, as well as in other major global financial markets.

She has also advised bulge bracket investment banks and private equity and venture capital funds in capital markets and M&A transactions.

K&L Gates’ capital markets practice has handled hundreds of public equity and debt offerings over the last decade with 120 capital market lawyers, spanning 35 offices across four continents.

Pictet names new CEO for its Asian wealth business

Geneva-based private bank Pictet will appoint Victor Aerni as CEO of the bank’s wealth management business in Asia, finews.asia reported. The position will be effective from July 2023.

Aerni, 52, is an equity partner at Pictet and has been responsible for the Swiss German market where he managed to develop the business into a market leader since April 2009. Before joining Pictet, Aerni worked at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for 16 years.

With the appointment of Aerni, the current head of the business in Asia, Fong Seng Tee, will become vice-chairman of the board of directors of the regional subsidiary, Bank Pictet & Cie (Asia), which is currently chaired by François Pictet.

Pictet is a Swiss multinational private bank and financial services company founded in Switzerland. Headquartered in Geneva, it is one of the largest Swiss banks and primarily offers services in wealth management, asset management, and asset servicing, to private clients and institutions.
