China’s access to the global semiconductor industry has suffered another blow after the US on Friday effectively severed the country’s supply of high-end chips — and of the equipment used to make them.
The dramatic escalation came alongside the addition of 31 mostly semiconductor companies to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s “unverified list” — meaning they risk being blacklisted if they do not let U.S. officials inspect where the American technology they import ends up.
