On the occasion of the inauguration of the Paris Motor Show, this Monday, October 17, the Stellantis group announces the production of three new electric vehicles of the Peugeot brand in Mulhouse. These are the 308 saloon, the 308 SW and the 408.
The Franco-Italian-American group Stellantis will produce “short term” 12 electric vehicles in France, against six currently, announced this Monday, October 17 the director general Carlos Tavares at the Paris Motor Show.
The Peugeot 308, 308 SW and 408 electric will be produced in particular in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin), indicated Mr. Tavares alongside the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, who visited the Peugeot stand.
“This is excellent news, we have been waiting for it for a long time. The three vehicles are already built with us in hybrid variants but this will be all electric”, rejoices Ronald Laventin, CFDT Peugeot union representative.
Manufacturing should begin by the second half of 2023, according to the trade unionist, “on the same existing lines, with modifications to assembly points, mechanics and fittings”.
The fact of not having 100% electric vehicles on an industrial site was becoming worrying according to Déborah Schorr, FO union representative: “The electric motor requires less assembly personnel than for the combustion engine, but it is work and a prospect of employment for years to come on the site”.
The awarding of the electric versions of the Peugeot 308, 308 SW and 408 vehicles is also good news for Thierry Robert, director of the Stellantis terminal plant in Mulhouse: “This award was made possible thanks to the good results obtained by the teams of the site, fully mobilized to constantly improve our quality and our competitiveness. It also rewards the work of the partners who accompany us”.
The 3008 and 5008 electric SUVs will be produced in Sochaux (Doubs) and Citroën’s future electric SUV in Rennes, the group said.
“We are in the process of giving credibility to this trajectory that we have set for ourselves, that of obtaining two million electric vehicles produced in France in 2030”, greeted the President of the Republic.
