Southeast Asian online lending platform Funding Societies has appointed Chai Kien Poon as its Malaysia country head. Meanwhile, Creadev, the investment arm of France’s Mulliez family, has appointed JY Chow as its Asia managing director.
Funding Societies appoints Malaysia country head
Southeast Asian online lending platform Funding Societies has appointed Chai Kien Poon as its Malaysia country head.
In his new role, he will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Funding Societies in Malaysia, as well as driving strategic business partnerships and initiatives for the digital financing platform in the country.
Chai will succeed Funding Societies Malaysia co-founder Wong Kah Meng, who’ll now be the company’s group COO. In this role, Wong will oversee Funding Societies’ businesses across Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
Previously, Chai served as head of strategic projects and operations for Funding Societies, Malaysia. He has been with the fintech platform for almost four years. Meanwhile, Wong joined the firm in 2016.
Earlier this year, Funding Societies raised $144 million in a Series C+ round and $150 million in debt financing to fuel its regional expansion.
SoftBank Vision Fund 2 led the oversubscribed Series C+ round with participation from Vietnamese tech giant VNG Corporation, Rapyd Ventures, EDBI, Indies Capital, Ascend Vietnam Ventures, and existing shareholders Sequoia Capital India, and BRI Ventures.
Creadev has new Asia MD
Creadev, the investment arm of France’s Mulliez family, has appointed JY Chow as Asia managing director.
In this role, he will be based in Singapore and focus on agrifood, Chow said in his announcement on Linkedin.

Creadev is an evergreen investment firm operating worldwide, controlled by the Mulliez family, founders of one of the largest business-to-consumer retail platforms in the world.
Creadev is based in Paris and has offices in New York, Singapore and Nairobi. Launched in 2002, Creadev has invested over €1.8 billion in companies in stages ranging from venture to growth equity and buyout.
