After two years of slowing sales amid a slew of challenges triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic and muted spending, festive cheer is back among vehicle dealers across Gujarat.
After the Navratri-Dussehra season, the Diwali festivities have also spelled good news for automobile dealers. Estimates from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Gujarat, suggest that vehicle sales have grown by 25% during the festive season.
Some 7,400 vehicles — cars and two-wheelers — are slated to be sold from Dhanteras till Diwali in Ahmedabad alone this year.
“Sentiment has improved significantly in the two-wheeler market driven by rural demand. People are opting for full payments and finance options for two-wheeler purchases. Mainly student and rural buyers are driving sales,” said Pranav Shah, former Gujarat region chairman of the FADA.
Demand for cars is also good, with the semiconductor shortage easing, dealers say. Despite hefty discounts on entry-level models, sales are muted in the entry-level segment. “Demand for SUVs is significantly better. Even the luxury car segment has seen good sales,” said a city-based dealer.
