Even two months after launch of centralized Vahan 4.0 portal, printing of vehicle registration cards at Indore regional transport office (RTO) continues to remain affected allegedly due to shortage of cards.
Transport department shifted registration of new vehicles to the centralized Vahan portal from August 1, and the format of vehicle registration cards also changed due to shortage of chip-based cards.
“More than 18,000 registration cards of vehicles sold after the launch of Vahan portal are pending for printing,” claimed sources.
This includes 70% applications of two-wheelers and others are of four-wheeler and commercial category vehicles, they added.
This delay in printing of registration cards has irked a lot of vehicle owners as they still wait to get the registration cards of their vehicles. “I bought a motorcycle in September, and have not received its RC till date. Even the dealer has no idea about when my vehicle’s RC will be generated,” complained Siyaj Khan, a resident of Kanadia. Dealers of second-hand vehicles also complained about the delay and said that they have already started telling customers about the delay. “There is not much impact on the sale of vehicles, but customers are bound to face inconvenience especially when they are caught by cops,” Vipin Baheti, an auto-dealer said.
Officials at Indore RTO also admitted the delay in printing and said that the work was delayed due to ongoing changes in the format of the cards. “The agency engaged in printing cards has been instructed to speed-up printing of cards and pendency will be cleared within a week,” Indore’s assistant regional transport officer Archana Mishra said.
She said that printing of RCs of pending applications of new vehicles will be cleared within a day or two and then printing of RCs of old vehicles will be started.
